The encouragement I needed
I've been teaching myself mandolin from a few books. Theory, technique, and practice tunes belong in those. "How-To" books also should include a few common tunes beyond old, stale traditional folk tunes. They often don't, or have tunes that are unfamiliar. My interest in mandolin was flagging until I came across "The Beatles for Mandolin."This book is the perfect companion to those primers. It has clear melody lines in note and tab format and includes chord details as well. The tunes range from dead easy to high intermediate (moderately complex to me at 6 months). Learning a tune you grew up with and know by heart provides interest and some ease. You just *know* when something doesn't sound right. Likewise, you can hear it when you nail a tune like "Yesterday" or "Michelle." And, though these are bare-bones tunes, knowing the material (or having it easily available just about everywhere) provides incentive to experiment with notes and timing. This book was just what I needed to encourage me to continue with the mandolin past that "awkward" stage. I'm still not what I'd call competent, but this keeps me motivated.

Nothing Mandolin About It
_The Beatles for Mandolin_ isn't worth your time unless you _really_ will not read basic vocal melodies or cannot find them anywhere else. The book comes with basic chord changes and vocal melodies that you could find in fake books and other non-mandolin specific sources. Here's a summary of my findings.-- The chords are dumbed down to the basic Major, minor, and dominant 7ths.-- There are no non-mechanical suggestions for chord voicings. There is one (standard, frequently open) voicing per chord used.-- The keys are the standard ones you'll see in other fake books-- good for playing with others, but they're not especially friendly to mandolin.-- The notation is mostly for the vocals. There are a few riffs, but you're on your own for most of the songs.-- The song selection, while pretty broad, probably doesn't include your favorites. The only mandolin-specific qualities of the book are: -- Tab for the vocal melody. The tab is purely mechanical. Nothing falls above the 6th fret unless it's on the 1st string. There are no double-stops or melodic chords used, either. The tab won't tell you anything if you have elementary reading ability. -- The chord fingerings are for mandolin, but you could look them up in any beginner's mandolin book. There isn't any variety in voicings, nor would I agree with many of the suggestions. -- There's a picture of a mandolin on the cover....I would suggest getting, instead, a fake book or a Beatles collection for guitar or piano or looking online for guitar chord tablature.

The Tabs seem accurate and are easy to follow
I don't play Mandolin often, but I am able to follow the tabs. It is a nice change-up from playing bluegrass songs.

I don't really see the point of this book
I was hoping for actual arrangements of these songs, but instead the book only consists of single-note tab for the unadorned melody line. This book is really appropriate only for beginners, and honestly, even beginners would do themselves a real service by learning to pick these tunes out by ear rather than read them from tablature. The book contains:1. Lyrics for each song2. The basic verions of the chords for each song3. Standard music notation for each song4. Mandolin tablature for each song. The lyrics and chords are easily findable elsewhere on the web for free. Midi files for the songs are also free on the web, and can easily be converted to standard notation or mandolin tab with free software. So this book doesn't really offer much for the price. So while there's nothing WRONG per se with this book, there's nothing particularly RIGHT about it either.

Great Book for Beginner
This book is great for me as iβm just learning to read music and to play my mandolin. The book includes the notes and the tabs so which ever way you want to play youβre covered. The tunes are all fairly simple and just the melody is printed with all the words and chords. Hal Leonard books seldom disappoint.

Some of the Beatles favourites
This is a great book for learning Beatles songs fast, as you know The Beatles used maybe a 4chords max. However its the arrangements that are tricky especially for a Mando beginner like myself. The Tabs are not perfect note for note, but most musicians would not want that anyway. If you want a good jumping off point to play some songs in hurry and you are comfortable with interpreting The Beatles in your own style after you have mastered the melody and rhythm this book will work for you. If you are a advanced player, this book will also make a quick reference to look up the bits you may have forgotten.

A wonderful book for lovers of the Beatles and mandolin
I originally saw this book in a music store but got it when I received a amazon gift card. I'm a big Beatles fan who recently started up on mandolin and this book has a variety of songs, both in Tab and standard musical notation. I can already read music, so I can look at either one for reference. This is a good beginner to intermediate book. If you are a fan of Beatles music and are familiar with the songs, you will find it fairly straightforward enough to be able to pick out songs within a short period of time. I would recommend this music book to any Beatles lover who is learning to play mandolin.

Beatles at your fingertips
Some great Beatles songs for beginners to intermediate players in music with tableture and also chord boxes so you can strum along as well. A good selection of songs (there will always be a favourite missing for Beatles fans). Agree with a previous reviewer that the layout could have been bettered if it were more concise and across fewer pages, but apart from that it is worthy of your mando music collection.

Fantastic selection of songs
Some reviews have criticised this book saying it simplifies the songs too much, but as a beginner I found it perfect.Great songs and easy to follow.

A clearly laid out book that will be useful for a learner on the mandolin to get some songs together These books are a tad slim for the price perhaps but will be something to use over a period of time and keep handy!
