Don't let the false alarms fool you
If you just breath on it with hot air you can get a false reading of a leak. Knowing this, you can still get some decent use out of this, because when you have an actual leak there is a more severe and definite on and off to the detection. The only way you can use this efficiently is to become expierienced with how sensitive this is and don't take every detected leak seriously. Actual leaks can be duplicated every time, false leaks come and go.

Very useful ,worked like a charm
This is my second detector I purchased to check my mini split A/c. The first one ,$70, lasted about 10 minutes before it quit responding to any of it's controls. This unit worked perfectly, my leak was so small I had to use the most sensitive range to find it. I might add that the first unit was giving me false positives just before it stopped working. One more thing, after the unit go through it's warmup my unit showed AU on the screen. I could not find out what AU meant .I finally held the reset button few seconds and the error signal cleared.

Unsure, no savings
Still don’t know if it actually works, but if it does, it may not be that accurate, no savings if you are trying to save money from a shop diagnostic. It looks good, and good case.

Has good long reach. Large easy to see display.
Is great for doing a quick survey of the coils and valves if you suspect leakage. Like the large backlit color display with three sensitive settings. It has a short warm-up time when you first turn it on, and you are all set to detect most refrigerants that are in use. It can detect with the beeping on or off, and the long reach sensor head allows it to maneuver along hard-to-reach areas. Tested on an R22 system and detected a leak at the schrader valve without any problems. Best to set it to the most sensitive position first to get a general area of leakage detection and then turn down the sensitivity if the meter is pegged at the high detection to hone in on the area of leakage. I don't have any way to test that this unit can detect 0.03 oz/yr leakage but its listed as is on the specs. I do like that the meter has a rechargeable battery and comes with a nice molded plastic case. Overall a great detector with features at this price point.

Easy to Use and Accurate for Peace of Mind!
The media could not be loaded. I have an older 19-year-old HVAC unit on my little log cabin that is actually too large for the 300 square feet plus 185 sq ft attic, and it's had its innards rebuilt more than once. Every year it seems there have been freon leaks, but I lease it, so cannot replace it with a newer, smaller, and more energy-efficient modelIt seems to quit nearly every year in June and leaks freon before that happens. So I ordered this freon detector as a way to check up on it regularly. I liked the fact that it is based on a digital display, with the freon level tied to color. Green and blue is good, yellow and orange a warning, and Red is seriously bad. Simple, since I know precisely zero about how this all works. After reading the clear, concise, and easy-to-read manual I started it up, then walked out to my AC unit and walked around it poking the probe into the part where the coils poke out of the venturis. And YAY - it's all green and blue.So to verify it works I went over to my neighbor who has a leaky unit and tried it out. Sure enough - yellow - orange - and one spot Red. With an ear-splitting alarm. He was impressed - and so was I!OVERALL - It's also a nice price, as you could easily pay more than twice what this one retails for - Keeper!

Find a leak quick
This is a review for VIVOHOME HVAC Refrigerant Freon Leak Detector with Rechargeable Battery, AC Sniffer Leak Detector for R134a R410a R1234yf CFCs HCFCs HFCs HFOs HCs, Max Sensitivity up to 0.03oz./yr.This detector is a must have if you need to find a leak in your AC system. It dies it quick easy and without false reporting. I, before having this tool, used the black light and dye method and it works great if you are able to see it, but this tool will allow you to find the leak anywhere. The tool is well made and comes with a nice case to keep everything together. The sensitivity is great and will beep on the littlest of leaks so you can keep your cars AC working well. You will appreciate it with all these dog days of summer coming. To top everything, it is incredibly easy to use. The battery has a great life, and the LCD screen provides you with all the information you need to make an accurate diagnosis.

Doesn't detect R134a and probably nothing else
I attempted to use this to detect a known issue on a vehicle. I already identified the leak so it was the perfect opportunity to test this tool. Sadly, the tool did not detect the leak. So to further testing I used a small can of R134a and simulated a direct leak by opening the valve directly towards the nozzle of this tool and again no change on the detector. I had higher hopes for this detector and was hoping it could make finding leaks a bit easier in the AC lines on automobiles. I also tested this next to some brakeclean which normally sets off detectors but this tool didn't budge. The only time the indicator goes over the first notch is when the tool is "warming up". I would not recommend this since it doesn't detect any leaks.
