Pro Tec Protec Cornet Leather Valve Guard, Model L231

The cornet size works on my cornets and my trumpets. And it makes holding whichever horn I'm playing much more comfy on my left index finger, which is the weight bearing hand. It also makes playing longer possible as the side of my index finger doesn't get sore from being pushed up against the metal of the instrument. A must have for all cornet and trumpet players- and it also helps protect the finish of the horn at that contact point.

Very good for keeping my valve block clean, and preventing finish loss.

This works fine as a handguard. A little pricey for what it is.

I like the extra cushion. It's not intrusive physically or visually. It does help me with the way I use that finger to hold my trumpet so I can operate the third valve slide.

This reduces finger fatigue and fits like a glove. A good item to add to the horn.

Poor fit, and definitely, absolutely not leather, it’s plastic.

I gave it less stars because i was sent a valve guard for a trumpet instead of a cornet which is the type of horn that i had ordered it for: a 1965 King Tempo CORNET. It is less comfortable because i have to keep watching to keep my fingers of the lacquer on the upper valve casings to keep the wear off of them, because in spite of its age, the lacquer and plating on this horn are still in excellent condition. Rather than return it, i am adding a piece of scrap leather to the top section.
