Feature packed and efficient
I got this specifically to convert it into a portable ac. With some creative engineering I was able to make myself a portable garage air conditioner that is far more efficient than a true portable, and for less moolah! The unit looks great and quality control appears to be a high priority for TCL. Everything is very well made, and thoughtfully designed, including the remote control which is laid out in a manner that actually makes sense and isn't a total mess of functions most people aren't going to use.My setup is vastly different from most, but the environment it's in, is likely fairly common. My garage is concrete cinderblock built in the 1950s. Shingle roof and no insulation. Technically, it's a brick oven in the summer, I could probably bake a pizza in there. Needless to say, it's not somewhere you can spend any length of time in if you like being conscious and amongst the living.Because this unit is only 8k btu, I fully understood it couldn't possibly cool the whole garage. However I didn't need it to, I just needed it to cool a section of the garage. Thus I turned it into a portable ac so it is wherever I need it to be. It fits my needs perfectly!Excellent value for money spent, and highly recommend it!

After Using For Multiple Months
I live in a very hot area. The temperature topped out at 118 degrees on our hottest day, so I am not exaggerating on the heat. This air conditioner kept up on triple digit days in a room that measures approximately 220 sq ft. The fan distributed the air quite efficiently. The downside is that the smart app is not intuitive and it was slightly loud when it cycled on and off. That is not unique to this brand. I cannot think of any window unit that I have ever used that did not have some noise when the unit cycles on and off. Even in hotel rooms this has always been an issue with these types of units.

Amazing AC so far!!
This could not have arrived at a sooner time!!We just started getting slammed with heatwaves here in the Midwest. And this arrived just days ahead of the early heatwaves!!Now this IS heavy- at least for me it is! And this is the 8000BTU unit I am reviewing! It has a VERY nice area of coverage, and this is not as much of a drain on your power like the AC units 20 and 30 years ago!Keep in mind this one is a "Standard Cool ONLY" unit. This seller also has an "Inverter Cool ONLY" as well. The difference is that the Standard AC runs in an On/Off manner. It turns on and runs until it hits the preferred room temperature. Once it hits the room temperature it runs for a few degrees below that and shuts off.And Inverter will run continuously until the preferred room temperature is reached at which time it just changes modes, but is still running at a reduced capacity.Like driving your car: Shutting the engine off at every stop and restarting it to continue will burn up alot of gas as opposed to putting your car in idle at every stop.It is up to you to decide which you will need. Not only does this come with a remote control, but you can control it via your cell phone, too!!Can't find the remote? Use your phone until you find it again!!The app is a quick and easy to download and connect to your specific unit!!Now deciding where to put it was the BIGGEST challenge. But we managed to get this upstairs and mounted in a window! The only down side, and I think it could have to do with the way I sealed around the window, is that it didn't quite fully seal around the window. I had the extra material so it was fine in the end.But the moral of the mini story is, measure the window you are going to put it in before ordering it!!So far so good! The heat of Summer is just starting outhere, so it is going to get much hotter before starting too cool off in a few months.I will update if there are any issues that arise!

Keeps things cool but noisy
The 6K BTU keeps my 220 sq ft room cool and keeps humidity to a comfortable level. However, there is a noticeable thumping when the compressor turns on and off. Actually, it is annoying. TCL may make excellent TVs but Im not sold on their AC units.

Item does not work. No matter what I do it still won’t cut on. Item is defective and I was not provided with a solution. Even my husband had issues turning it on.

App is terrible
Why buy or manufacture a smart item when the smart isn't so smart. Pairing is impossible help non existent and no like master reset for the networks or way to restore to factory settings.Quite frustrating.
