It did great on my hardwood floors. My whole house is hardwood cleans it great. Does the whole house in about 30 min. Does not scratch or damage floors

Q: Does it include directions of how to get your cat to ride it?

Nope. That's between you and your cat.

Q: How well does it work with hair on the carpet?

Extremely well but you need to remove the hair off the edge of the roller because it gets wrapped around the roller

Q: Does magnetic tape work to keep out of an area?

In my experience the tape does not work very well, at least on carpet. The vacuum pushes the tape slightly every time it bumps into it and eventually it pushes it into the area you're trying to avoid. For us, we're trying to keep the Shark out from underneath our recliners where it gets stuck 90% of the time. Inevitably, it will end up crossing the tape and getting stuck under the recliner or getting stuck on top of the tape (we'll get an alert in the Shark app letting us know our Shark is stuck on top of a magnetic boundary tape).
