Q: Will it work in Peru?

Yes and no. GPS works internationally so that you can at least have waypoints and get back to them. This device will not have any maps for Peru.

Q: What cable do i need to interface with my laptop that only has usb and hdmi ports?

If its the old model I am thinking of You don't. If memory serves it uses an old 14 pin jack that no longer exists on computers.

Q: Is the etrex Legend H suitable for hiking? I want to track my trail mileage and elevation change.

Hello, I have not actually used one of these but I would think it would be perfect for hiking. There is a trip computer that has an odometer that measures moving time, moving average, moving speed and your overall average. Meets rigid IEC529IPX7 submersible standard. Up to 18 hrs on two "AA" batteries. It also has built in coastline road and highway detail. There are cd's available for you to download detailed topographic maps on to the unit that offer access to maps that are for hiking, hunting, camping climbing and skiing.
