Giraffe Tools Retractable Heavy Duty Hose Reel, 1/2" x 82FT Automatic Rewind Garden Hose Reel with 360° Swivel Base, Ground Mounted for Lawn, Patio, Concrete Floor & Yard Watering

I had a hose with a manual reel that came with my house when I bought. It was such a pain (literally) to unwind and wind, it had kinks, it leaked, I avoided using my hose until absolutely necessary. I have a pool and needed to add some water and I wanted to also clean some patio furniture. I decided to look into a new hose and saw these retractable ones that had to be mounted on your house. I didn't want to do that. Luckily, I came across ground mounted ones. Some are on a singular stake, with the unit off the ground. While ideal for lawn mowing, that didn't seem stable. I was pleased to find this ground mounted one with 4 stakes and a platform that is screwed into the ground. Installation was fairly simple. I placed it in the most convenient location, but the ground was soft where I placed 2 of the stakes. I secured those with J-shaped rebar stakes. The unit is secure enough. It swivels and stays put when pulling out and using the hose. I have used the hose now a few times. IT IS GREAT! It easily pulls out and the magic when it retracts makes it worth the money. I turn off the water. Lightly tug and slowly guide the hose back to the unit to squeeze out more water and to not damage the hose or unit. Unreeling and reeling now takes less than a minute with no stress or pain from trying to hand crank an unruly hose. I regret that I waited this long to buy this hose! I will be sad if it doesn't last or breaks, but I will update my review if I encounter any problems.

This is perfect for my needs. The hose works great, easy to pull out, easy to retract. I even recommended it to our Pest Control Technician who saw it and took a picture of it so he could buy his wife a Mother's Day present. I like that it is compact, and neat. The hose has a place to hang on the side so it's not getting in the way, and helps to avoid tripping over. Good water flow.

I really wanted to like this one. I have been looking for a retractable garden hose reel that mounts in the ground, and I don't see many options out there. I got the one that is around 100 ft long. The reel lasted about 2 weeks. After several uses, the retractable mechanism stopped working properly. It would not fully retract the garden hose. Since I did not keep the original box and I also needed a garden hose to keep watering the newly seeded lawn, I contacted Amazon to send me a replacement before I ship back the original unit. Amazon's customer service was amazing, and they shipped a replacement unit right away. I installed the new unit and shipped the original unit back, only to find out that the replacement unit was even more defective. :( Now Amazon tells me that I have to purchase a 3rd unit, and then ship back the 2nd one. Apparently, there is an investigation of why this is happening twice and they won't send me a replacement like they did the first time. These suffer from a bad design 1) while waiting for the 2nd replacement, I decided to see if I could fix the first one and make it wind back up. I noticed that the internal parts are all plastic. The hose goes out of the enclosure through a white plastic guide that moves left and right along a horizontal axle. The white plastic guide plays an important role of winding the hose neatly so it fits inside the enclosure. Without this mechanism, the hose will wind up all in the center of the reel and it will become a large "ball" that will not fit inside the enclosure. The problem is that the white guide moves left/right when the horizontal axis rotates. The rotation comes from a plastic belt on the right that is attached to a small white gear wheel. That plastic belt falls off the little gear very easily and it stops rotating the entire mechanism. The fix is simple - use your fingers to guide the belt back on the gear. But it will fall off again after a few days, so you have to keep doing that all the time. 2) When I got the second replacement hose, the same issue was happening but pretty much every time I used the hose. After further investigation, I noticed that the right side of the black plastic reel is deformed, and as it rotates when pulling/retracting the hose, it makes contact with the same white belt and pushes it off the small gear - again disabling that entire mechanism. This is a classic example of a good product, with a somewhat good design but poor execution. Cheap parts that bent easily, there is a lot of play, and they need to redesign that gear so the white belt cannot slide off of it.

Nice style for those who can mount to a wall. Fast retracting, functions very well even after days in the sun. Very easy to install, all you need is a mallet! Love the quality as well, the connectors are very Sturdy

I am very pleased with this retractable hose, I have a neverleak hose for front yard but put this in backyard I needed something I could mount in the ground so I could put away in the winter. This was pretty easy to set up and very comparable to the neverleak quality. Iam 83 and 100lbs so this works for me. Glad I purchased it. I

I mounted it on the ground with the provided stakes. I did not fasten it to concrete. It works as described and really makes for a much cleaner look than any other hose reel.

I’ve only used this a few times but I’m impressed. It works exactly the way it’s supposed to. As you get close to the end of the hose it’s a bit of a workout pulling against the spring that will eventually retract the hose, but this is to be expected since it has to reel in 130’ of hose. There is a lot of plastic in the construction, but I suppose this helps to keep the weight manageable. It looks like it will be particularly easy to unmount to store inside during the winter. I’m pleased with the purchase, it’s nice looking and practical for my needs. If I didn’t need 130 feet of hose, I would have purchased one with a shorter length which I expect would be easier to fully extend.

I’ve always had issues with the crank type hose reels for putting the hose away. And now at almost 70 years of age I just don’t have the strength needed for manually retracting and/or winding hoses. So that is why we decided to try one of these. I had no issues with retracting this hose when I was finished watering. It suggests emptying the hose to make it even easier (lighter weight) but I didn’t even have to do that. It retracted at a pace that was easy for me to keep up with guiding it back evenly. I pulled the hose out full of water as well, and while I know it was heavier to do it that way than empty it was not overly hard and saved me trekking back and forth to the water shut off.

J’étais contente au début car pas obligé de faire des gros trous dans le béton, j’ai eu comme un peu de difficulté à marteler les 4 supports au sol, utiliser une fois et la 2 fois bloquée et le tuyau ne veut pas sortir, j’ai pris du temps comme pour le démêler à l’intérieur du dévidoir difficile, je comprends pourquoi il était mêlé, quand c’est le temps de le retourner à l’intérieur il roule très vite il faudrait le prendre avec les mains et essayer de baisser la vitesse pour qu’il se mêle pas.

Have not used yet, however it appears of excellent quality.

First off, I should say that we didn’t bolt this down… it would help but… even with someone holding the housing firmly in place, this hose is a beggar to unwind. I get quite a workout, after the first few feet it fights me. We wanted to try it first before drilling holes in our concrete driveway, hence the reason my hubby held it firmly in place while I attempted to pull the hose out. We decided it won’t work much better if we anchor it. As seniors we don’t need the aggravation. So it looks like we’ll probably end up replacing it with a collapsible hose. For now it’s used solely to wash the cars since they’re right there beside the hose reel.

I was initially excited about this retractable garden hose — the reel mechanism works well, and the hose itself seems durable and convenient for storage. However, on first use, I noticed the sprayer nozzle began leaking right away. It drips from the on/off level and wastes water, which is frustrating when everything else seemed well-designed. I tried tightening the connections and even tested it with another hose to be sure, and the leak appears to be a flaw with the included nozzle. It's disappointing to have an issue right out of the box. I may have to replace the nozzle separately, which kind of defeats the purpose of a complete set. If the manufacturer improves the quality control on the accessories, this could be a great product. For now, I can’t fully recommend it.
