"Incompatible" with MKIV Jetta w/ Monsoon Sound System (Works fine!)
Soumatrix claim that these don't work with Monsoon equipped MKIV Jettas, however mine works flawlessly. I just kept my stock tweeters connected (the crossover for the Monsoon system is up-stream).These were a great upgrade for me, as my 14 year old stock speakers had seen better days. The Xtase units weigh about the same as the stock door woofers, but the cones are made with a much higher quality material. Therefore, these should last a lot longer.Half volume is plenty loud for me, and I never went above 75% with my stock speakers. I feel no need to push them to the limits of what the stock system can do, because as I said they are plenty loud. The reason I left my stock tweeters plugged in is that when they were unplugged, there was absolutely no treble at all. This is because with Monsoon equipped cars, the crossover is upstream from the speaker connector. So, by leaving the stock tweeters connected, you retain the high end of your sound. My stock door woofers lowest response frequency was around 55Hz, and these Soumatrix speakers dip down to about 40Hz. Bass is much clearer and overall sound is impressive from just standalone door speakers. It sounds like I turned back time on this 14 year old stock system, and it sounds brand new again.I would say these are a great product for anyone looking to return their MKIV Jetta with Monsoon Sound System back to how it rolled off the factory. (If not, better!)Overall I am very happy, and the Amazon price is great. ($432 on Amazon vs $700 something on Soumatrix's website).
