I wasn’t familiar with phosphatidylserine, but after reading about the many benefits, I feel fortunate that I discovered Vital Nutrients – Phosphatidylserine Cognitive Support - 150 mg - 60 softgel capsules and am taking it with my daily regime of supplements. I haven’t felt a major difference yet, but feel a bit of the fog from my brain has lifted, especially after a long night of work.The following is an overview of what I found on the internet about phosphatidylserine.“Phosphatidylserine is a chemical. The body can make phosphatidylserine, but gets most of what it needs from foods. Phosphatidylserine supplements were once made from cow brains, but now are commonly manufactured from cabbage or soy. The switch was triggered by a concern that products made from animal sources might cause infections such as mad cow disease.Phosphatidylserine is used for Alzheimer's disease, age-related decline in mental function, improving thinking skills in young people, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, preventing exercise-induced stress, and improving athletic performance.”Obviously, Phosphatidylserine helps with many things but may have some side effects also. For instance, here is what I read: “Phosphatidylserine can cause side effects including insomnia and stomach upset, particularly at doses over 300 mg.”I was also pleased to find that the other main ingredients listed on the bottle seem pretty innocuous. The pills are on the larger side, but I don’t find the softgels difficult to swallow, especially compared to some of the other supplements I have taken over the years and I had a hard time swallowing.

I was not too familiar with this supplement prior to accepting a bottle for review purposes. I was then hesitant to try it after reading the warnings in several reviews about contraindications from this supplement with other medications. A little investigation disclosed that the primary concern is if you are taking a medication that acts a blood thinner, or is in fact a blood thinner, as this product may act as blood thinner. The instructions on the bottle itself do not state or warn of any contraindications and only notify you to consult a physician before use if you are pregnant. So, not coming within the confines of any of the contraindications I finally began taking the supplement to try it out. So far, after over two weeks of use I cannot notice any effects of any kind, positive or negative. Also, I got a scratch on my finger just yesterday and could not discern any degradation in my body's ability to stop the blood flow and heal the cut. The reason I mention this is that one effect of thinning of the blood is that it harder for the body to stem and stop blood loss from a cut and people who take blood thinners are advised accordingly. So, no blood thinning effects from this product as far as I can tell. I am going to continue to take this product until it is gone and purchase some more as I do believe that even the potential of its benefits are worth it.

This product is a bit on the pricey side for what it does. There are competing products if you just do a quick search for the main ingredient you can find a competing product at a much lower cost. I'm curious as to why the price is so high. Are the ingredients all non chinese sources? Hard to say. The competing product's formula helps me with thinking, and I'm guessing this does too as I seem to notice very little difference.I'm a little curious as to where they source their ingredients. But I guess that's true with all supplements and ingredients that I look at. If it says China and maybe even India, you may want to do a double take before considering it. As far as dosage goes, I don't see much of an improvement from 100mg to 150mg for me at least.

This supplement might actually be working for me as I am experiencing better sleep since I started taking it as well as enhanced memory. I work with spreadsheets and numbers all day under deadlines and I can get stressed out and mentally exhausted. I had found when I took phosphatidylserine in the past from another brand, I did notice sharper brain function - so I could go 8 hrs of intense mental concentration rather than getting "brain-fried" after 4-5 hours. I am also not having my nightly stress related dreams since I started taking this. It might just be a coincidence, but a great one, and if it's due to this pill, it's a winner! If it really works well for me over a period of time I will update my rating to 5 stars.

My son was recommended casually by his doctor to try phosphatidylserine for his attention deficit problems. It seems to help him clear his brain fog and stay focused on his study. He has been using a PS100 formula from another leading supplement manufacturer, which uses Sharp-PS Green form of phosphatidylserine. Sharp-PS is derived from sunflower oil and is soy-free and non-GMO, which is supposed to be one of the better, bioactive form available. It seems to work better than the soy-based phosphatidylserine.This product contain 150mg of Sharp-PS per softgel. The softgels are pretty easy to swallow. He likes these better than the PS100 since he doesn't need to take these as often. He finds this product just as effective. It helps him stay in focus better and longer. The softgels are also free of coatings, binders, gluten, dairy, soy, eggs and sugar.Overall, this is a high-quality supplement for healthy cognitive and mental functions. It uses the Sharp-PS form which is soy-free and non-GMO. Excellent product. I would highly recommend it.
