Thought provoking, brilliant British movie!
Writer Geoff Thompsom seems to have some self-doubts when you see him on the extras that go with this film and it's a great pity that in order to produce a movie like this the team responsible appear to have to have gone cap in hand all over the country to get the necessary money to finance this film? That said the Director Neil Thompson has produced something that he can be proud of,and the actors and EVERYONE else can be proud of being involved in and that if they bother to watch it, Producers and Directors of films in Holywood can see that THIS is how to make a real film involving gangsters,violence,low-life scum,depressed-people,drugs and family breakdowns!Danny(Mel Raido) who I have to say I have NEVER heard of before is beaten-up in front of his kids and loses face. He finds solace with a group of doormen who encourage him to learn to stand-up for himself and "fight-back" which he does. The group consist of Louis(Colin Salmon) Rob((Shaun Parkes) and Sparky(Scot Williams) who stand on the door of clubs. When Danny's wife Angela initialy sees Danny's face after he is beaten she declines to let him see his daughters as she says he can't be trusted with them and she fears for them when with him.To see them is really all he lives for, after their marriage broke-down and his life momentarily goes into free-fall.Sparky is double-dealing with the local crime boss Hennessy,(brilliantly played by Ronnie Fox)and allowing his drug-dealers into the clubs front-doors only to be chucked out the back by Rob. Severe violence follows and is meted out to all and sundry on a grand scale. The Make-up Designer Jenny Cochrane does a remarkeable job in her department and gets an eleven out of ten for her work on Shaun Parkes!

Excellent film
This isn't an Oscar winning classic and doesn't aim to be. It is a real, gritty, raw and real look at life. I watch alot of films, and this is one of my favourites. One man's journey, as a man and a father. Really impressed with the acting, they got the right cast for the right roles as each pulls it off perfectly. First film I bought on DVD and then bought on Blu ray. Highly recomend. If you like films like Wild Bill, you should love this.

A Modest budget winner
I was aware of this film from the early stages of production due to the way it was funded, and was looking forward to seeing the end product, which did not dissapointThe action, storyline and acting are all excellent. Sometimes when geeks watch films which portray inaccuracies or stuff which they know would be 'unlikely to ever happen in real life' they get mildly annoyed, and so it will be here for bouncers and boxersThe actors cast as bouncers are supposidly working at the 'biggest club in town' so how 4 of them (2 of which dont weigh a buck-05 wet thru) manage this is somewhat unrealistic (a few bit part walk on's from more beefy doorstaff would have helped here!)And the boxing club was somewhat devoid of, err, real boxers - with the exception of Geoff Thompson, the source of inspiration & redemption for countless jouneymen of all ages, & the pen behind this great storyBut all that is just picky trivia in the light of the film as a whole, as a piece of quality entertainment with a strong heart & something worthwhile to sayA great brit film with a great 80's soundtrack & an intelligent script which deals with several difficult issues square onOne of those films where, when the end titles start to roll, you find yourself saying - "mmmm - good that, yeh, enjoyed it"

Beyond amazing ! More films as good as this please !
Having not seen this hidden gem before I wasn't prepared for what I was going to witness but I'm glad to say I was utterly blown away by this film, when I say the best film since Lock Stock or Trainspotting I really do mean it. The casting, direction, score, dialogue, intelligent script, everything about this film is so well executed it makes me wonder why I haven't seen it before or why it hasn't had a wider appeal because it more than deserves it. Based on true events that took place in the 80s the story revolves around a central character who becomes involved in the gritty world of bouncing on the club doors and follows his consequential descent into the world of drugs and gangland violence. With a gripping build up of events leading to a shocking finale this film brilliantly and effortlessly takes us through many an unsettling scenario even with hints of black humour thrown in. It has some dark moments but they are expertly handled and always in keeping with the films context and never glamorized, on the contrary, they are necessary. With excellent pace and a cracking 80s soundtrack the film pulls no punches (no pun intended) in shying away from showing us what happens in real life, this IS reality, this is what actually happens in peoples lives and should be shown, all credit to the director for pulling this off with professionalism. Cannot recommend this gem of film enough, advised for audiences of 16 and up due to it's moderate level violence and language. Enjoy !

Would you like a fist with that cocktail?
I loved this movie. It gave me a nostalgic trip to my disco days. I bought the book the movie was based on and could identify some of the characters from the book in the movie. The movie seemed very realistic, names changed to protect the innocent or guilty if you prefer. It begged the question, what would you do if you were faced with a fight or flight situation? I never realized London clubs were so rough. I real eye opener.

Check dvds for foreign substances
Disc had a sticky substance on it near the center which caused it to get lodged in my dvd player. The player would not allow the disc to drop down into the tray, it ruined my player.
