The Trade: A taut international thriller with a dark psychological twist

A total page-turner
I love this author's Jamie series but this is the second standalone book he has released this year. It's totally different but no less enjoyable. Set in Bolivia, Andrea Grierson is on her way to Michael Vasquez's coffee plantation to compile a report for the International Labour Organisation. It isn't long before she finds herself in a dangerous situation which turns out to be just the beginning. This was a total page-turner for me. The tense atmosphere just oozes off the page and I found myself questioning some of Andrea's decisions. There's so many nasty characters here and much violence and I really wasn't sure how things would end. Needless to say I raced through it as I didn't want to stop reading. Very impressed.

An enjoyable read.
Morgan Greene takes us to Bolivia with Andrea Grierson. She is sent to do a report on a coffee growing farm. The story takes us from her arriving at the local airport and her plans are compromised from the beginning. Things go worse quickly for her as they get violent and she ends up at the estate having to fight for her life and to escape .Whilst the over premise is possibly unlikely, sending a single agent seemed naive, it was an enjoyable read.

A gripping read!
Morgan Greene is fast becoming one of the most prolific and exciting thriller writers of his time. “The trade” breaks away from the Johansson novels to take us to Bolivia, where the main character faces a seemingly hopeless situation. Greene creates in this book a story full of deep and rich characters, whilst using his powers as a writer to create suspense, ensuring the reader can’t put the book down. The ending, as always in a Greene novel, is exciting with twists and surprises.

Good standalone
I've read the full Jamie Johansson series and I'm absolutely gripped. This is the 2nd standalone I've read and it's a good read. The plot is completely different to the other Morgan Greene books, and for that reason it took a while to get into it (I kept expecting Jamie to appear 😂)The storyline is dark & serious and had me wondering what's going to happen next. The ending was a bit basic though. I would have liked to have known more, because it jumped from one line to a completely different one without a paragraph breakup.Wether that was intentional or a mistake I don't know. It's a good read though, so I'd recommend it.

Taut, compelling and full of surprises: a fast and ferocious page-turner
I came to this with uncertainty having loved Greene's Jamie Johansson thrillers, but he grabs this new setting by the throat and tears a powerful twisting narrative out. It drives on at pace with engaging characters, convincing environments and a ton of action so real it hurts. 5* from me.
