I’m not a Vine participant. Therefore, I did not get this product for free like every other reviewer so far. Which imho, is intended to ‘Prime the Pump’ on a game that had no reviews. It appeared that I was one of the first to purchase the game on amazon based on how many were available early. I wanted to wait until I figured out my own solo rules before I reviewed the game (see comments below). I like to type a lot when it comes to games I enjoy…I was made aware of the Flapjacks & Sasquatches card game version thru my FLGS, which didn’t look esthetically appealing. However, it seems to be popular and gets good reviews. And the theme interested me. For this version, I love dice games. I own some that are based on the Yahtzee rules of up to three rolls like this game that I enjoy the dynamic of.Jay Little co-designed this. He designed the core rules of the popular Star Wars X-wing miniatures game in 2012. Which also uses d8’s. The mechanics & thematics are solid. I own a lot of its minis.I haven’t played this game multi-player. But within a couple days or so I made my own solo variant rules which are based on some of the standard rules and my repurposing components. (I’m not sharing those unique rules). Dice and/or Card games are relatively easy to accomplish that goal. Based on that I’m giving it very high marks. It plays quickly and I didn’t have to stop and think thru the ‘math’ of which dice to use to chop down which tree. Or which side of the dice to use. Especially the huge chunky marbled d8 which feels and looks great. It has very high replay-ablity due to the simplicity. I’ve played (130) games over the course of 14 days.I made my own excel file score sheet which helps a great deal. Note that no scoring sheet is included in this victory point scoring game. That keeps the cost down. But still, it should have at least included a small score pad that could be copied. Or a pdf available on the publisher’s web site. Yet that forced me to make an excel sheet which does add to the involvement of gameplay for me.Bottom-line: Flapjacks & Sasquatches dice make for a straightforward and relatively-simple mechanical & thematic focus, yet variety that make it extremely repayable. The hunter green colors, the marbled d8, the dice graphics, the quality of the Wooden Nickels, and the Flannel zippered bag. Esthetics matter to me.The box is thin card stock. It’s shrink wrapped. The components are in sturdy ziploc-style game bags. The quality of the components and flannel bag are very high.The official rules might be difficult to understand at first. Primarily because of the thematic terminology. Once you play it a couple times it makes sense. I’m sure this make for an entertaining fast-paced multi-player dice game.I give this game high marks. It hasn’t left the table yet. And I own a lot of games. Regards.

My husband and I love dice games for our in-house date nights (Catan Dice, Qwixx, Qwinto, Bloom, and Journey to Mordor are our current top five). Two-player games are a must, but it can be tricky finding ones that are the full game vs. those that offer modified versions for two players that don't play as well.Flapjacks & Sasquatches is genuinely fun with two players. Like most dice games, it has a sizable element of luck, but strategy is also important, particularly around deciding which dice to keep or re-roll (as many dice games do, you get three chances each turn), when to buy extra dice that use up hard-to-collect wooden nickels, when to risk guaranteed points on one turn for potential tripled points the next turn, etc. It isn’t a complex strategy, but those decisions have a huge impact on accumulated points over the eight rounds.The instructions seemed confusing at first, but once we started rolling the dice, we were able to understand and memorize the rules within minutes. In fact, the game is simple enough that even though it’s rated for ages 14+, my kids (ages nine and eleven) will have no problem picking it up and enjoying it as much as we do.The quality of the game is also excellent. I was concerned when I first received it since the game box was thin and flimsy. As most games are stored in their boxes and my household isn’t exactly kind to them, that would've been a big problem. But it turned out the game box wasn't meant to be kept. The game is stored entirely in a well-made, compact flannel pouch that makes the game extremely easy to carry to restaurants or on trips (which we do a lot as a family). All the game’s high-quality elements — 8 wooden nickels, 12 standard-shaped “logging” dice, a large “Sasquatch” eight-sided (octahedron) die, and the rule book — fit neatly inside the pouch. The dice and nickels also have their own resealable plastic bags to keep them separated so no sorting is needed before playing.There wasn’t a thing my husband and I would change about this game. It immediately went into our favorites pile for regular rotation.

This is such a fun game! I got it to try because I really love the theme and that just seemed like a fun game to add to our collection and was very happy to see that it is a very fun game and was pretty easy to learn. I like that it comes with a cute little bag to store everything in and makes it easy to throw it in our camping back and take it with us when we travel.

This game was fun and entertaining, and definitely a more creative one. The rules were easy, the box is small so it’s easy to carry around, and it really was a fun game.

In this game you roll your dice Yahtzee-style (rolling 1-3 times) to try to get enough axes to chop down as many trees as possible. The "lumberyard" dice are basically standard D6s with 1=flapjacks (pancakes), 2-4=axes, and 5-6=trees. For example, a roll of [3][3][6] would be 3+3 axes which is enough to cut down the 6 tree, scoring 6 points. Extra axes are wasted and you need enough axes to fell the entire tree to score it. 1s can be scored for 1 point each or you can save them. If nobody eats them or steals them before your next turn they are worth 3 points each. Saving them is much safer in games with fewer players. The "sasquatch" die is a big d8 with some axes, a big tree, and a bunch of unique faces that create some variety in the game, like stealing and eating flapjacks. There are also some coins (wooden nickels) that count as points at the end but can also be used to buy extra dice during your turn.In our first game with 3 players (8 rounds) everyone scored exactly 90 points, even though they used different strategies. Of course, there is a lot of luck involved with all of the dice rolling, but even later we haven't seen many complete blow-outs. It's a fun and quick game that's easy to teach and is perfect for those times when you are waiting for a game at another table to end so you can mix players between games. (Everyone goes to game days, right?)
