The Altra HIIT XT introduces a new cross-training category to Altra. Designed with CrossFit and HIIT workouts in mind, it features a wrap-around, sticky rubber midsole for rope climbing and lateral traction. More cross-training specific features include the removable insole—without it the stack height goes from 24mm to 18mm—stitch ‘n’ turn stitching underfoot for a comfortable fit with or without the insole, and the stylish, durable upper. Built to perform, the HIIT XT is the perfect choice whether you want to hit the gym or run a lap (or both!). Experience the new shape of strength.

I love Altras.
OK, I'll keep this brief as I do not believe in complaining, but I do believe in keeping people's feet safe as a physical therapist for the past 20 years. First, I love Altras... I've worn them for the past 7 years and have never had a bad pair, but certainly some personal favs (Instinct, Lone Trail), That being said, this shoe felt nothing like any altar I've ever purchased. I was seeking a good cross fit style shoe for weights and runs. I read the reviewed and bought it 1/2 size higher to compensate for the tight fit mentioned in other reviews. It was still quite tight and the wide toe box I had come to love is non-existant (note, I have normal width feet). I loved the thought of an all rubber sole, but it turned out to be quite rigid and PAINFUL. I took it our for a 3 mile walk to break it in. Nope. Terrible... I thought "I just need to get used to them" so 2 days later I tried again. Nope.... severe pain. Took them off and walked home barefoot. Now, you should never take a single review without some salt because everyone's feet are different, but do look at the pattern. This is a tight, rigid shoe, probably best for weights but in no way would I recommend them for runs. As for me, I'm returning these pain dragons and will stick to what works.... best wishes and MOVE WELL, MOVE OFTEN!

Great initial reaction, but serious quality issues
Better than Metcon 3 and Nano 7...really amazing shoes for running, lifting, jump boxes, etc. Great stability, lock-in. Phenomenal job! I believe they are the best Crossfit shoes on the market.Update after a month of use: daily WODs, the shoes have begun to come apart at the sole, as shown below. Altra said that the glue must not have dried completely, but I'm not confident in purchasing again after returning the item.

Awesome for Crossfit
I really like these shoes! I've been a fan of Altra since the beginning (I still wear some of my original Instincts). The one thing I was surprised about was the size of the overall footprint. They look a little clunky to me, but perform like a dream when I'm at Crossfit; and they're comfy just wearing around. I've done everything in these shoes - Olympic Lifts, Power Lifts (especially good here for deadlifts and Squats), gymnastic movements, running, etc. and these perform every bit as well as other shoes I've used for these purposes, and BETTER with the wide toe-box. My toes thank me every day for these!

Altra Did It Right
I happened across these shoes while looking for Ultra running shoes. I'm glad that I found them.I'm always looking for a shoes to support cross training and this one is great so far.I was apprehensive about ordering because Altra is not known to be a "functional fitness" like shoe compared to Nano and Metcon; I own both. After reading the reviews, I ordered them. Their looks drew me in as well. I have worn them twice during my CrossFit sessions and they have not disappointed!! Really good cushioning around the ankle kept the sides of the shoe from digging into my ankles on lateral movements , flexible and breathable material kept my feet cool, and the ‘Zero-Drop' platform helped with natural foot positioning and prevented my heel cord from being shortened. For reference, I did kettlebell swings, squats, lunges, Burpees, box jumps and dumbbell cleans while wearing the Hiit XT. They're a little more "bulky" than other trainers but didn't feel clumsy in them. I'll update on running functionality soon.I recommend the Altra Hiit XT for anyone looking for a new, solid training shoe. Additionally, I would go a half size up, if ordering again. But, I did order same size as Nano and Metcon.

Great Mulipurpose Trainer.
The fit of these is very similar to the Instinct 3.0 3.5s, which is very snug and form fitting. I fit my shoes to match idendical to my foot size, no empty space, my foot is 270mm long and I wear a size 9. The upper is much more substantial and stronger material than the Instinct and holds you foot in position much better. Enables lateral movements much better than there running shoe range. Cusioning is similar to the Insticts but actually feel softer. The Zero drop platform is the main advantage of Altra shoes, the wide toe box is really only margially more than other brands but does enable straightening of the big toe better. The sole is made of soft rubber gummy compound that provides Velcro like grip, durability may be a probem though. I like these as a all purpose shoe that you can wear all day doing any activity or sport.
