DVD containing classic live performances by two of Rock music's most iconic bands: The Doors and the Rolling Stones. The Doors Are Open - the Music from the Doors-(Roundhouse, London, July 9th 1968) Jim Morrison writhes in leather pants and white poet's shirt, flinging his curls and dancing to an extended version of 'Spanish Caravan'. The cinematography in black and white takes care to spotlight each of the band members rather than the audience, making this show especially intimate. 'The Doors Are Open' is an intimate portrait of one of the Doors' unique live shows in England. The Rolling Stones in the Park - THE Music from the Stones (Hyde Park London July 5th 1969) the Rolling Stones were scheduled to play at a free concert in London's Hyde Park two days after Brian Jones's death; they decided to proceed with the show as a tribute to him. It was their first concert with replacement guitar player Mick Taylor, performed in front of an estimated 250,000 fans.

They could've easily fit them on the disc
I knew something was wrong when I opened this and saw Alan Douglas' name on it. The guy responsible for butchering those posthumous Jimi Hendrix albums is at it again (he's since kicked the bucket, no big loss there). What we have here are two British TV specials The Doors are Open from '68 and The Stones in the Park from '69. Both aired on Granada TV.I bought this because I thought it would be convenient to have them both on the same disc and to save on shipping. That was a mistake. What this listing doesn't tell you is that each video is missing two songs. They could've easily fit them on the disc. Alan Douglas is notorious for doing crap like that. The Doors part is missing When the Music's Over and Five to One. The Stones part is missing I'm Free (I never liked that track anyway) and Honkey Tonk Woman (which was disappointing as it was the first time they ever played it live, I love the Stones when they're sloppy). I've seen a Japanese version which also has Street Fighting Man but that always goes for $30-$50. YouTube here I come.Anyways, if you've read this far you already know what's on this. I recomend buying them separately. This version is another Alan Douglas hack job.4 stars 'cause the Stones are just so good. Some of the Doors footage is already on the Live Europe '68 DVD. This one concentrates solely on the London gig.

This reviewer is wrong:
"Anyone interested in Morrison or the Doors would serve themselves well to own this video. There are only a few filmed Doors concerts out there, and this is about as good as it gets".As pertains to the context of the best Doors concerts as being the best of what's out there as I have a copy of The Doors Live at the Hollywood Bowl and it's one of the best if not the best of The Doors shows that were ever filmed. And then there are a few of them that are on Compact Disc that stand out and one of them was recorded in a ballroom in Los Angeles, (as double CD disc/s) some of these performers would have been incredible if they hadn't have let fame get to them and taken drugs to end their lives but even Janis Joplin was fantastic in her heyday, and Jimi Hendrix was phenominal as there still isn't anyone to compare him to, there are some that still believe that he came from another demension in some form or another. And didn't Jesus say that when he would come back that no one would know who he really was or should I say is. Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?But I don't follow any particualr religion.

Only 62 Minutes Long; Are there entire songs?
If the 62 minute program length is accurate this obviously isn't two complete concerts. Are the songs they chose to include complete? How about a songlist? Doors in europe 1968 probably has some footage from Roundhouse concert which opened the tour but does not have Spanish Caravan which is mentioned in this DVDs product description. I hate that breed of DVD that uses snippets of songs to skirt Fair Use compliance. If this has full length songs I want it. If it doesn't then I really really don't want to waste time or money on it.

This is what The Doors were all about
The Doors - The Doors Are Open (1991) is a classic Granada Television (Great Britain) documentary about this legendary rock group at their peak in 1968. Filmed in black-and-white at The Roundhouse in London in September 1968, this performance by The Doors is raw and dark. The Doors preferred dark films and indoor venues were something The Doors thrived on and The Roundhouse let them put on a vintage Doors performance that has become classic footage. All the band members were "on" that night. The closeness of the band members is very apparent - they seem to all be working as a team to give the audience a taste of their radical music laced with the bizarre poetry of lead singer Jim Morrison. From Ray Manzarek's haunting organ to Robbie Krieger's flamenco guitar work, to John Densmore's jazz style of drumming to Jim Morrison's legendary stage presence, this concert shows how The Doors performed just six months before the infamous Miami concert on March 1, 1969. Things really changed for the worse for the band after the Miami concert. This documentary not only has concert footage, but interviews with Granada Television as well. Pretty much all the footage has become classic footage. You'll see the band members at the airport answering questions such as their name, date of birth, and occupation. Classic stuff. The songs included are:When The Music's OverFive To OneSpanish CaravanHello, I Love YouBack Door ManLight My FireThe Unknown SoldierJim Morrison sweats profusely during the concert and no doubt is stoned on something, probably acid.If you want to see The Doors at their very best, then this documentary is must-have for sure. Extremely highly recommended.

When the musics over
Great film for old and new fans of the doors. An insight to a real American rock n roll band and a rock n roll legend. On tour in Europe, all the classics. Filmed during their one and only tour and showing footage from the roundhouse in London and excerpts from Amsterdam and other European cities. Well worth the money.

can you say this is not good?
all i can say is that is is the doors live, this is the way they appeard during this performance, the sound quality may not be as good as expected, but i still think it captures the moment of the doors, i recently bought the CD of the Doors called Live In Hollywood and that was exceptional sound and for me and exceptional experience, i love the doors and anything live from them is a different experience, depending on how much you relate to the doors. as far as i know i would realy like to experience anything from the live or not, just to enrich my mind and maybe make me feel a little diffrent in the expectations of what i expect from a band a great as they are.

One of the Doors best European performances
I read Stephen Davis' book about Jim Morrison and the chapter on their European tour of 68 speaks highly of their 4 performances over 2 days at the Roundhouse. From stepping off the plane they were tracked by a Granada TV crew resulting in The Doors are Open documentary including footage of these gigs. The second set on the first day was rated as "a killer" with Jim performing at his best following recent well publicised problems in the States. On this recommendation I've been trying to buy a full copy of the programme for a while but none seem to available in Euro format, until I found this. The books mentions a set list of 17 songs, only 6 are covered here, with a few snippets of documentary in between and flashes of photo shots during some of the songs (including photos of Vietnam, prominent stars of the 60's, politicians, etc). Most of the film and sound is good quality with not too many of the gimmicky "pulsing ins and outs" that were popular with such film producers of pop videos. The downside is the shortness (just over 31 minutes) and lack of any decent inside notes. The only info on the rear of the case is word-for-word what's in the above description.I suppose I mustn't forget that the Stones concert from Hyde Park is also included, although I wasn't bothered too much about that, and it's frequently shown on tv anyway. Again it's a good set, decent quality, but again only 30 mins long. As before, no additional notes except what is shown in the Amazon description, which is repeated word-for-word on the cae.I've only given the item a 3* as I think that the packaging could have been better, and more of both concerts included. At the end of the day, an hour on a DVD is pretty poor these days. As I wanted it for the Doors element I can't complain about that. I'd still like to see a full version of the Granada prog, or even better a full set of the concert. If anyone knows where one is available I'm ready to spend!

Hold out or buy European Version
I am only talking about the Rolling Stones portion of this disc. It's crap! First off it's only 30 minutes where the actual film runs over an hour. It has not been fixed up at all. It looks bleached and the sound is thin. But what i really don't understand is the shortend running time and of course it does not tell you anywhere that this is not the full film. If you have a player that Plays PAL it's out on both DVD and Blu ray in the rest of the world. Pay the extra money or wait for a real release in North America!

Klassiker

Below average performance for a genius band
Somewhat boring concert from a band that promised so much more. Black and white. Together with the Stones film, a good deal.
