Learning Japanese
I really like the Instant Immersion Japanese. I've learned Japanese from books, audio, college courses, living in Japan with a personal tutor. I think Instant Immersion Japanese is a great start to learning the language. They help you to learn the same way a native would learn the language. I think that's very important. In comparison, there are many books and learning devices that are just too "scholarly" for me. I'd rather learn more naturally, which I believe Instant Immersion Japanese does. There was a skip in levels from disc 1 to disc 2, but if you use this a supplemental aid, then it works great. It's not just this and I'll be the greatest Japanese student I can be. I highly recommend Instant Immersion to anyone to seeking to start off in learning a language.

Okay for vocab, nothing else
I regret purchasing this product. There is no sort of structured lessons in this program. You start the program, and you choose what catagory of vocab you want to learn (ie, numbers, body parts, days of the week, etc). There is not sort of grammar whatsoever. The production value of the software is very low. They fit the whole thing on 2 cds. I don't recommend this product at all.

Awesome
I had purchased an older version of this program years ago, and it was great. Unfortunately, I never really got around to using it. Now that I have the time, that version does not work with Windows 7, so I bought this one. It is the same great program, but with even more features and it works awesome with Windows 7. It is much more affordable than Rosetta Stone, and it is the same type of learning. One downside, the mp3/Ipod download. There is a cd which is labelled as being for the mp3 download to computer, but it is just instructions. You have to put in the program disc 1 to get the mp3 audio off of it, and it only works with iTunes from what I can tell. The other downside is that when you listen to it in iTunes, it gives you the word in Japanese, but not in English. This makes it impossible to use as an additional learning device while on the road. I was hoping I could just load it to my iPod and listen to it in the car, but it doesn't really work that way.

very misleading
do not be mislead by the pretty box. This Japanese learning set comes out like a hastily put together package of CD's that in some cases contain the exact same information from CD to CD but in a different format and in another cases leaves you with bits and pieces of information that you have to try and sort out yourself. There are no seamless transitions from CD to CD and no common format to follow. Each CD could very well be from different Japanese learning programs. One of the advanced CD's assumes that you know more than you can possibly have learned regardless of whether or not you mastered ALL of the material before that point and basically that CD (as well as others) become pretty much useless. With that said...I found the first CD pretty useful for building up your vocabulary on everyday words.

Check if there is a new version out before buying this one
It works when it wants to but it's a great way to learn this language. Only if they have a way to update it since there are new OS for computers it tweaks on windows 8.
