Don't Need The Fancy Box, Just Needs A Sheath
It's a very sharp knife right out of the fancy box it came in. I'm not qualified to say this is a high-end chef knife, but it did cut through veggies like butter, as described. The wood handle is very comfortable to hold as well. I always hand wash my large knives and had no problem with this one.The only recommendation I have for this product is that they spend money a little more money on a sheath for the knife instead and less money on the fancy packaging that will only be thrown away to save space. I know that it might be a great marketing presentation for a gift, but I'm not impressed with packaging as much as the quality of the product. Just my two cents.

Good, not great
I'm a knife snob but not really a knife expert, but I'd say their claim of this knife being 57 HRC is close or an overestimation. There's a noticeable amount of flex to this knife which automatically tells me you're not getting the quality of something like a Zwilling or a Wusthof. However, it seems to flex less than your cheapy beater knives like Victorinox, F Dick, Mercer, etc.Steel does seem a bit reactive so it's definitely not stainless. It shouldn't rust though...at least on the blade.I say that because the handle could use a little extra refinement. The "wood" part isn't completely flush with the tang so theoretically water can trap in there and cause rusting over a long time.Back to the blade, I'm pleased with how thin this knife is for what it is. It's also quite sharp out of the box. There's sharper, but most people should be pleased. They did make a bit of an error at the tip though. I assume they went back in at the end and sharpened just the tip as a separate process, leading to the tip being sharpened at an obviously different angle than the rest of the edge. This is necessary of course due to the tapering of the knife toward the tip but your better brands will have a smooth transition, whereas this knife comes in with an abrupt one. Also there's a tiny burr on one side of the tip. You can easily fix that yourself if you've got the tools. In the end, a lot of this comes down to price. I've seen worse knives at a higher price and better knives for less, but here I think you have a knife that fairly outperforms what the price would suggest.

This is SHARP!!!
I needed a durable knife to keep on my griddle outside so I picked this one and I love it! The handle is incredibly comfortable and isn't as slippery like I thought it would be at all. The materials used are gorgeous as well as durable and super easy to clean. I don't run it through my dishwasher as it's high temp and I don't want to damage it but it only takes a minute to hand wash. I use it nearly every day and I haven't had to sharpen it yet so it definitely holds an edge. Great deal on a quality knife!

It's a decent knife, but not great and not "ultra sharp"
and for $30, that's too expensive for an "ok" to "decent" knife. I was really expecting (especially for that price) an exceptional knife.

Very sharp, good blade profile, comfortable handle
This is a great chef's knife for the price. For my first test, I used this knife to cut raw sweet potatoes into chunks. Anyone who has done that knows that sweet potatoes are a challenge to cut. This knife sliced through with no hesitation and minimal effort. I was impressed! Not only is the blade quite sharp, it's profiled well and is easy and comfortable to use. The handle is especially nice - beautiful warm wood, solidly made, with a comfortable shape that's easy to grip and doesn't cause fatigue. If I could improve this knife at all, it would be to include a permanent guard or sheath for storage. If you keep your knives in a drawer, a sheath is safer for your hands, and helps prevent damage to the blade. I think all sharp knives should be sold with a sheath. Apart from that, the knife itself is a really nice piece.

Very sharp knife for budget conscious cooks
First impression of the Lyveit 8 inch chef knife - so much sharper than I expected. I can cut extremely thin slices of tomatoes, which is my go-to test of all knives that I use.The knife is well made, with a heavy full tang handle. I read another reviewer say the wood was not flush with the metal and could trap water/bacteria, but mine is completely flush. The variance could be a quality control issue, so I'd suggest checking for this first thing. It's also good to note that the handle is not regular wood, it's pakkawood, which is a wood-resin composite. So this means that it's non porous and highly resistant to bacteria, so it's not likely to be a risk. The knife is laser etched with the brand name of Lyveit. I suppose that's a nice flex for the brand, but for an unpronounceable name, I think I'd go with a more subtle mark - like on the end of the handle, or maybe a smaller name. That has no effect of course on the quality of the knife, but I'm continually perplexed on why unpronounceable brand names are printed on merchandise.Good knife, and I recommend it.

Lightweight, pretty sharp 15° edge.
This Lyveit 8 inch Chef Knife feels comfortable in my hand. It's light weight makes it easy to handle and use. It feels balanced when I hold it. Not where the blade or handle is overly heavy compared to one another. The blade is full tang but kind of thin. I like to test my kitchen knives on a pineapple. It cut through the top and bottom pretty well. I've had knives do worse and more expensive knives do better. It cut the skin off the sides easily. Same for the pineapple core and flesh. I will update any changes in the future. So far, I am happy with it.For the knife steel gurus, it's listed as made from High Carbon Stainless Steel with approximately 15% chromium and 0.5% carbon with a hardness of HRC 57. The cutting edge is listed as 15°.Approximate Dimensions:Overall Length: 13-1/2 inches.Blade Length: 8 inches.Handle Length: 5 inches.Blade Thickness: 1/8 of an inch.
