Unknown gem
Have to be honest, I had never heard of the man until I watched Nicola Benadettis program about great violinists. She was spot on with this man, I loved every track and he was superb.

Campoli playing his great friend's works
Fritz Kreisler .said of this recording to Campoli ..I wish I could play these pieces as you do! Such was his enthusiasm upon hearing his compositions played by Alfredo CampoliThe bel canto sound and rhythmic clarity Campoli brings to these charming works of Kreisler, makes this one of the best recordings

I should have learnt the Violin
Then I could have cheered myself up whenever sad by playing any one of these compositions.Never mind! Several years ago the BBC showed "The King steps out", and I remember Kreislers music being featured, especially his Opus 2 Caprice,(there are so many caprices flying around that you have to identify them properly!!) and a romantic waltz melody called "Stars in my eyes". This tune seems so familiar to me, and to others who have heard it, but no one can ever identify it as this. Why not see if you can place it? Is it a Strauss tune or a Novello or Cole Porter number? Perhaps its been plaguerised by someone hence its familiarity.Nevins Rosary is memorable, so is Heubergers Midnight Bells. I think its the same Richard Heuberger who wrote "Im Chambre Separee" from Der Opernball, a magical operetta. The quality of the recording is quite acceptable. The Beeb is very unlikely to show any 30's films now as most have been bought up by the Jappo's many years ago, and the corporation does not pay extortionate fees for old films, only for old pop groups!

Five Stars
Kreisler's playing is beautiful, just as I remembered it, but I expected the digital reproduction to be better.
