Is this 'your' version of 'satanic'?
Yep, couldn't agree more with the other reviewers - this is superb black metal played by a long-running band who sound amazing live. The dvd is well filmed (sound is excellent too) and I didn't mind at all that the concert is interjected at various point (at the end of songs, thankfully) with the lead singer being interviewed, giving him the opportunity to set forth Watain's 'reason for being' and his / their particular 'version' of occult / satanic / magik / call it what you like. It's interesting to hear what he has to say but, at the end of the day, it's just another re-hash of the old gnostic mystery religions and, in typical fashion, to hear him talk, you might be left thinking that Watain are one of only a few bands in music's long history that hasn't 'sold out' and that (here comes the gnosticism) they are one of the few 'true' bands that know 'the true power' of music in magik - blah blah blah. Gee, thanks Watain, I guess this really 'must' be 'truly' the correct version of 'occult', 'satanic', etc etc etc, as we listen to the 'insightful' drivel handed out pertaining to Watain's symbology, numerology, and 'musicology'.... cue the bursts of fire (in time with the music), scream, growl, swear, utter anti-christian sentiments and be amazed as the 'priest' gets down on his knees and 'performs' his 'rite' - pure showmanship (but still doesn't top Hendrix setting his guitar alight!) but, at the end of the day, they're just a bunch of leather-clad musicians earning a living the only way they know how. Yep, this IS an excellent black metal concert and Watain ARE a very good black metal band - enjoy the music and just leave it at that and you won't go far wrong :o)

LONG AWAITED.......
...DVD from this fantastic sweedish Black Metal combo. Watain are not the average Brutal Black combo playing 1000 mph guitar riffs, shrieky vocals, and reach-for-every-can drum rolls; although you wouldn't tell that from their look, which is typical corpsepaint, long spikes and assorted paraphernalia. On the contrary, the songs are super-heavy,but on a mid-paced, doomier fashion. Of course there's a lot of tasteful tremolo picking that will keep lovers of the stlyle on the edge of their seats. The dvd is part documentary part concert, with the documentary part interspersed in circa 4' segments in between the songs, making the whole thing clock at 83'. I'd really rather have had it as a separate feature, since it detracts from the flow of the show, and although the segments are at the end of every song, allowing to skip them,I found myself watching it as it was intended to. The volume of the docum is lower than that of the gig, so no need to adjust between the sound gig (at a realistic volume level, that is to say LOUD !) and that of the dialogues in the docum feature. The documentary is really good and interesting, portraiting the band and their approach to satanism and nature in a unique way, with photography not unlike that of a high-end movie. The gig is filmed with 7 cameras; nothing too fancy but BM bands are not exactly monied. The lighting is fantastic, lots of flames on stage and the musicians are firmly in place for the whole of the show. Nothing is OTT but everything's good, with the possible exception of the strobe lights partially blinding the camera from time to time (effect or defect ? )The audio mix, in both 2.0 and 5.1 Dolby Ac-3 is dynamic and tonally excellent, neither raw nor sterile, but just in between, purposely lacking the skull-splitting extremes (mega bottom end and super-trebley guitarwork) of most of their colleagues. I liked it bigtime and thought it fitted the band's style just nicely. The picture exhibits a 7.9 Mbps fixed ratio, which is good for standard def but it only takes 5.2 Gb of the double-layer disc, wasting precious space on which a higher-ratio could have been fitted. There are no extras whatsoever which is rare this days and the menu is very simple.But....I'm not complaining, just reviewing and cannot recommend this product highly enough. Lovers of the genre like me will drool all over this.

Out standing Concert Double CD/DVD 8 panel Hologram Pack that every fan of Black Metal must have
This is the Debut live Concert DVD/DoubleCD Set from Sweden's Black Metal Fathers Watain.Fantastic performance from start to finish. There's also a track by track behind the scenes interview with Frontman Erik Danielson in between the concert videos and i didn't mind that either.Well worth every peny too.A hard to find release too however i'm glad that i now have it in my Music Collection. There's nothing that i don't like about it and i just wanted this live release because it's a pure memory of a life time. Plus it's also the very same set list that was performed at BOA in 2012. A must have for any fan of Black Metal. It also contains tracks from the bands first 4 albums including a track from the 2010 release Lawless Darkness release which can be found on Season Of Mist Records. Check them out for yourself if you haven't done already you won't be disappointed.

One of the best Black Metal videos and documentaries of a band i ever saw
Being a big fan of Watain and hearing about this DVD CD set I had to have it. Watain are known for there epic live shows and this video highlights it but also includes interviews with Eric vocalist of the band and many ritualistic footage. I think he describes the symbols the meaning and what Watain stand for in this video on the DVD part it helps people to understand more about the band. Combined with Watain's out of this world performance and truely shows why Watain is one of the best Black Metal bands who stick to their roots. And this video truely shows how passionate the band is about their band their music and their religious believes and expression. Eric does not try to appear evil in the interviews or scary but a very soft spoken guy. Not many Black Metal bands give or in invite people into their world or believes like Watain does I enjoyed the DVD and the interviews. The live performance footage I should talk more about as I said it was a epic performance they chose a great setlist of songs and they were performed great the sound and video is awesome great atmosphere. And on to the two CDs in the set they contain the whole concert on two CDs very good performance great performance of the songs I am very satisfied with this set I have no negative things to say about it. I think its a great set that any fan of Watain will enjoy I recommended.

Killer imagery and the camera work is excellent! Great montage of selected pieces and killer songs!Insane DVD for the people not right in the head like my kind!

In Keeping With A Profound Black Metal Spirit
I have never seen Watain, but once you've seen and heard this package, you'll feel like you have. This is the FIRST cd/dvd collection I've bought that both the dvd and cd versions have enthralled me like this.If you have never explored black metal, this should be your initial exposure.I don't have words enough to describe this release-both the dvd and cd are truly incredible! The true conviction that Daniel Erickson has for this band and what it represents is beyond anything imagined.I do not prescribe to black metal and its doctrine but I will say this-I dare you to find a more dedicated path in this genre of metal. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone with an inkling of interest in black metal music. The dvd and cd are superbly done-this is a labor of love.I have never seen the enthusiasm and dedication for a genre of music like this-100% KILLER METAL!!!!!!!
