Living In Oblivion : The 80's Greatest Hits, Vol. 4

~ I'm on the Mexican....Radio! ~
Volume 4 heads off with Wang Chung's well known "Dance Hall Days" and leads us to the fabulous, but rare song "Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo. Now, if you had a band name like that today, you might expect some kind of ritualistic singing. lolAs again, we have a decent share of well known songs or hits with some that are actually hits, but didn't get that much airtime.Spandau Ballet's "True" makes it here and perhaps is probably one of the best ballads of the '80s. Even making it's way into the soundtrack of "Sixteen Candles" from 1984 starring Molly Ringwald. The haunting song "Under the Milky Way" by The Church is here and I am glad. It's a beautiful song and deserves to be played often. Once you listen to it, you will be liking it very much.Scarlett and Black with their hit "You Don't Know" has a nice rhythm and feel to it, but yet sounds late '80s and reminds me of another group of that time around 1988, "When In Rome".General Public with their smash hit "Tenderness" is definitely a reminder of the mid '80s. I believe it made it's way to the "Weird Science" movie soundtrack and propelled that band to popularity for a time."Slang Teacher", "Lawnchairs" and "Mexican Radio" round out the last three tunes. With 19 tracks total, not a bad compilation, but not the best in the series I think. Try and find a good used copy of this one and you'll save $$.

MUST HAVE mid-level 80's hits
This is part an absolutely fabulous 5 cd series (even though liner notes say there are 6 volumes) of mostly new wave mid-level chart hits from mainly early-mid 1980's (a few reach back to the late 70's or into the later 80's). If you listened to and enjoyed radio from that era, you definitely need to pick up this out-of-print set, even though you may not know all the songs. Recording levels are consistent through all 5 discs of the series which is great for making your own playlists so you have level playback, and quality of the sound is top notch. Each track has artist info/ photo, top chart position and release date for both the U.S. & U.K., what album(s) it appeared on, time, composer & producer. 19 tracks; time: 76:17.

sensational
This album features the Actual 1980's version of belly of the whale by the burning sensations. Not the impostor "live version" offered for sale

Living Oblivious
There are some tracks on this disk that (thankfully) I had never heard of. However, there are a few songs here that are very difficult to find.Belly of the Whale - Burning Sensations. In fact it was for this one song that I bought the CD.Get out of London - Intaferon. As previously mentioned this is a hard song to locate. Also, WangChung, Tones on Tail and the Thompson Twins add to the value of this disc (for me at least.)

Some gems, some better forgotten
As with any compilation, some tracks you already have, some you want, and some you don't really care for. The selling point for me was the inclusion of Intaferon's 'Get Out Of London' - REALLY hard to find on CD - and I'd rather get it on this for a handful of bucks than on the Olsen twins' Winning London soundtrack for maybe 3 times the price.

Living in Oblivion
I had found the other CDs in this series at a used disc store in their clearance bins so I just needed to complete the set with this volume. And it was nice to be able to find it at such a good price.
