Superb. Stunning. One of the finest jazz saxophonists to grace the planet.
I first saw the jazz ensemble Paraphernalia back in 1980 at the long gone Sheffield jazz club (The old Brincliffe Oaks) when it was the original line up of BT & JH with Colin Dudman and Dill Katz. Over the years the line up has changed and evolved but one thing has remained constant throughout Paraphenalia's existence, the husband and wife team of Barbara Thompson and John Hiseman. If you haven't heard of them, or listened to their music, before the recent BBC documentary on BT's ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease, then you've missed listening to certainly one of the best jazz saxophonists of the 20th century bar none, and one of the best drummers of the rock generation, along with a number of extremely talented ensemble members. I don't often cry at documentaries but the BBC one certainly had me in tears. This DVD is a testament to the jazz legacy of BT, and the obsessive perfectionism of JH (it took five years to put together), and was recorded in Stuttgart in 2005. There's little about this DVD I can say beyond superb. BT and the band at their live best. Over the years I've been to live gigs and I'm grateful at last to have a record of one. I enjoyed every single track, and with the lights down low the years drifted away and I was back in the Oaks.If you like jazz I can't recommend this DVD enough. If I could I'd have given it another star.

Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia Live '05.
A live concert performance by Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia recorded in Stuttgart, released on DVD in 2010.It's a pretty straightforward concert shoot, with a few split-screen views and basic but functional camera-work; the main thing is of course the music, which is excellent and despite some reservations the band members had about the first set (alluded to in Jon Hiseman`s accompanying booklet notes) it is a fine performance by the group in this line-up.A great record of the band to have; Thompson's ongoing struggle against Parkinson`s and the recent loss of Hiseman – one of the country's greatest drummers (see his show-stopping solo on “Shifting Sands”) adds a certain poignancy to viewing this otherwise life-affirming concert.A hugely recommendable DVD.

Excellent
To be reading this I guess you are likely to be a Barbara Thompson fan, if so you must buy this. If not already, you will be after watching and listening to this DVD. This is quite simply a brilliant performance, Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia at their best. Superb musicianship all round, as might be expected, with a large variety of music: exciting, beautiful, sublime. Jazz (bordering on jazz rock) concerts don't get much better than this.

Mit voller Energie dabei
Ein herrlicher Livemitschnitt, mit einer Bamd die total aufeinander eingespielt ist. Auch ohne Gitarre, dafür mit Violine, geht sauberer Jazz-Rock
