Chimney Balloon Large 14 x 38 Inch Inflatable Draught Excluder

Live in a Victorian house with open fireplaces and the one we don’t use was letting a tremendous draft into the dining room. Purchased a chimney balloon on advice of a relative, took minutes to install and has made a remarkable difference to the temperature in the room. Recommended.

When this item arrived I was disappointed at the quality of it but decided to give it the benefit of a try. It fitted easily enough and inflation was easy. A few days later and I noticed the room cold again, the balloon was flat and had dislodged from its sealing position. I tried reflating it and again after a few days it went flat. a good concept but very poor quality.

This is just what I needed, to stop £5 notes floating up my chimney, with all the escaping heat from my radiators. My fireplace throat is very large, and this fitted perfectly. Do please read the instructions carefully, and will realise why you may need to top it up with air from time to time. I also took a wire brush before installation, and removed any sharp bits of brick or cement; this will help avoid any punctures. I am also careful with deflating it before removal — if you just pull at it, there is a chance it will get caught on a sharp edge and get holed. I would say the plastic is not thin like a supermarket bag; it's thicker than that; but I would still generally be careful. Worth every penny, considering how much it saves in energy usage.

These were the second chimney balloons bought in just over two years. While effective in reducing draughts they are not as robust as I had hoped. Going to see how I get on with this time.

Fab, stops cold air coming down, snug fit utensil needs to be topped up but only every now and then. I may have punctured it!

I give both good and bad reviews when they are deserved, to aid other potential customers and sometimes in the hope that the manufacturer will take heed. The plastic balloon on this product is around the thickness of a 10p supermarket carrier bag. It is not at all a durable material that may be subjected to mildly sharp bits of brick etc you would LIKELY find up a chimney. It also has a superfluous joint in the plastic feed pipe that should be designed out of this product. I had to secure the latter. I very gently inserted this product into the chimney and gently blew it up. I could hear hissing quite soon afterwards. I deflated it and eased it out to duct tape over the holes. I also duct taped a few bits that looked to be slightly damaged. A chimney over many years use will have bits of the cement courses falling out due to the heating and cooling effects when the fire is or isn't in use. This will leave to jagged edges within the flue. This product is so cheaply made and should have a much thicker material for the balloon to mitigate. I will not be using this product again unless they make a product that is fit for purpose.

I bought 2 balloons at the same time. One works absolutely fine, it stays up the chimney. The other must have a slow puncture as it will not stay up. I have now missed the returns window, as I appreciated I have to make sure it is in the best position, so I have the choice of shelling out another 25 quid for a new one or re-inflating it at least once a week which is a messy job, as it brings soot down. Not happy.....

The ballonn inflates ok but slowly deflates over time ... I didnt find it helpful and wouldnt buy another one.

J’avais pourtant pris le plus grand ballon xxl, ca tient une douzaine d’heures puis ca retombe surement du aux differences de temperature qui font se dillater l’air… bref vous passez votre temps a le replacer et à vous salir ainsi que la maison. Le systeme n’est pas viable.
