Great for Kamado Joe cold smoking
Great for cold smokes. Designed for hardwood sawdust, not wood pellets. When using, the sawdust should be firmly packed. Otherwise the sawdust will have a tendency to quit burning. When packed tightly, there are no problems. Decent smoke output.The sawdust may be lit only on one end or on both ends of the smoker tray. Lighting both ends results in more smoke generation for up to 4-1/2 hours. Lighting only one end doubles the smoke generation time but generates less, but adequate smoke.I’ve used this a few times now in my Kamado Joe Classic II. The ambient outdoor temperature has been in the upper 40’s or less. I place the smoker box on the cast iron charcoal grate. I use the heat deflectors to help shield from heat. The cheese that I have smoked was still cool following a 3-1/2 hour smoke.Easy to use. Highly recommend.

Use a hair dryer!
So it does take some attempts to get these to work good. I have both the tray and tube. I read multiple places that you need a torch to really get them going but I found a work-a-round. Load the tray or tube, add a small amount of lighter fluid (charcoal fluid) to the start point and light it. When you see the embers starting to glow take a hair dryer and give it a good 3-4 min blast. It will flare up and the coals will cherry but it will die down in a minute. Blow out the flames when it’s ready and bam! It will smoke up a storm. No torch needed!

Good product
I used it for cold weather fish and cheese smoking. I used a similar grate for years and managed to damage it. My grates have always performed better in low humidity eith very dry dust. Be certain to keep the packs tightly sealed.

Great Item for Hot Smoking at 7000 ft
This was my third A-Maze-N product in an effort to COLD smoke salmon. Unfortunately at our altitude, 7000 ft, I was unable to keep the smoke going. I have given one away to my brother-in-law in Sioux Falls and it works fine. I have found another method for COLD smoking salmon that works very well at this altitude. I will keep it for our HOT smoking needs!

This maze does not work well at all once you get it started go back about an hour later and the entire tray is burning and it burns it in Tire tray in about 2 hours it lights all of the rest of the pellets

Hard to light
Hard to keep lit...I m a seasoned smoker and this is difficult.
