SEGA Mega Drive Classics (PS4)

Brought this for my sister as she loved all the old retro games and wanted to play Alex Kidd again. Has a really good variety of games and the graphics are just like they were back in the day which is nice. We were stuck for a while as it just kept playing the demo and wouldn’t let you play the actual game it just kept saying press start button but we figured out which button it was so I will attach a picture as I have seen other people return it for this reason. Really good price for the amount of games you get.

I bought this to play on my PS5 and overall it’s absolutely brilliant — I love having so many classic SEGA games in one place and the retro feel is great. The selection of games is huge and really fun to go through, and it’s perfect if you grew up with these classics. That said, my only issue is with Sonic the Hedgehog — for a while Sonic moves on his own without me touching the controller. My controller has no drift in any other games, so I’m not sure if it’s a quirk of the emulation or something with my copy. Other folks have mentioned that this collection sometimes feels a bit laggy or different from the original Mega Drive experience, especially in some Sonic games, which might explain why it feels odd here too. Aside from this minor control oddity, I’m really enjoying it and would still recommend it for retro fans.

Fun retro game collection.

It's an ok collection. Could have been much better, as 90% of the games on here have been on every other Sega collection. They obviously have a LOT of licensing issues because most of the games people actually want have never seen the light of day since they came out 20+ years ago. The concept and layout is good, but again lacking; I like that it's a cosy, nostalgic bedroom that you can navigate through, but there are pretty few options. In fact the more I think about it the more this game is missing, they really could have done an incredible amount more with it. One thing that's a little disappointing is the games are just..."there", on the shelf. You can't do anything with them, look at them, there's no manual, nothing. The big thing this game lacks is *unlockables*. Not just games but things to add to the bedroom hub, I mean imagine the possibilities if you could win accessories and decorations for the room. There could be *tons*: play Sonic, beat a level and get a Sonic poster. There could be an audio player where you play won soundtracks. Character figures, display shelves... big missed opportunity. The game's performance is an issue, too - even on these really old Mega Drive games there is lag, for example take a hit in Sonic and it slows down and the sound suffers. This is especially noticeable in multiplayer. Big fans of Sega, I guess you can't go wrong, but it's missing a lot. Online Multiplayer on Mega Drive games is really cool to be honest.
