Newhouse Hardware Hardwired Chime Kit with 16-Volt/30VA Transformer and Surface-Mount White Button

This is a wonderful unit, not difficult to install, and it does everything in the description

I needed a new mechanical doorbell and it had to work with my existing SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro. The transformer specs appeared to align with those SimpliSafe provides but I could not find any confirmation. I decided to give it a try. It works great! I am also pleased with the chime itself... sounds like a doorbell and the volume is just right. (For those who read this and have the SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro, make sure you have the SimpliSafe Chime Connector... if you don't have it, you can call SimpliSafe to order one).

This is a basic mechanical "ding-dong" doorbell kit (includes a transformer and button). I ordered the kit because I needed a more powerful 30VA transformer since I was adding a second doorbell to my existing system. The kit is priced less than buying the doorbell and transformer separately. I needed a doorbell toward the front of the house near my entertainment room to augment the one near my primary bedroom door. The doorbell baseplate mounts with two screws spaced 6 inches apart on the horizontal centerline (mounting hardware is not included for the baseplate). I used hollow wall anchors for my installation. Once mounted, the white plastic housing snaps over the baseplate. With both doorbells wired in parallel, the 30VA transformer provides plenty of power and the ding-dong tones can be heard throughout the house. While I didn't need the button, it is a basic surface mount button and mounting screws are included. For shipping purposes, two small foam strips are inserted to prevent the chimes from moving and making noise - don't forget to remove those. The baseplate features a second connection for a second doorbell button (e.g., rear entry door) and it causes the doorbell to emit a single tone to distinguish it from the traditional ding-dong tone. The installation instructions don't exactly match the actual configuration of the baseplate, but the three electrical connections are clearly marked and mounting features are obvious. Finally, the overall design is unobtrusive and the white housing blends with most neutral white wall colors. Fancy it's not, but it does the job perfectly, and based on its simple design, it should last forever. A 2-year warranty is offered with product registration at the Newhouse Hardware website.

My old one burned up and was to weak to use for a video doorbell. So just swapped both the transformer and the new doorbell ment to withstand the higher voltage (alot of ppl dont realize a mechanical inside chime hooked to the video doorbells with higher transformer volts tend to burn up over time) so again swaped out that old 10v to this 16v and everything works like it was ment for this.

One side of the base was cracked. Let's say it was shipping. Once I installed it on a wall the cover would not stay on and it would actually jump out. There is NOTHING holding the cover to the base, it just needs magic to stay put, not a screw, a clip or anything else to maintain the cover attached to the base. The cover is so tight that it even prevents the metal lip to fully move and emit a clear sound. I almost thought 3d printing my own cover with its own screws to the wall. I will not buy again. I had to come up with a screw to hold the panel with the base. See pictures. Did not return because I had to finish the job. Only positive note it came with a very robust beautiful 16vac transformer.
