Can we use this sensor outside the house or will it not work in sunlight and in case of other motions such as tree etc ?

it is not a waterproof, it will work outdoor also, but it detects also tree or other movement. Try to install away from that objects

It is still turning off the lights even if we are still present in the room. Is this expected?

It's a motion detector and so if you are not moving then it will turn off after the set timer.
