Newer drivers did not work with (somewhat) older computer systems running Win10
Small, well built device. Installed the software and drivers on two computers. DELL Precision M3800 laptop/ Win10 - I installed the software from the supplied disc and everything worked great. To be sure I had the most current drivers I updated the device through the BM support site. Well, the most current drivers didn't work, so I reinstalled the earlier software. The DELL recognizes it again. The primary use was to use an external video source for SKYPE, but SKYPE doesn't recognize the device directly. You must use a program like vMix, which SKYPE will recognize My other computer is a custom build i7, nVidia GTX 760 running Win10.The primary application for the UltraStudio is to import footage to Premiere. Like before, I was only able to get the supplied (older) drivers to work with this computer also.

HI Tech Advanced Professional SDI Capture device
I have been using one of these for the past few months and it has worked very well for me with very few issues. I am a Script supervisor and I use the device by connecting it to an on set HD monitor via a BNC cable. For short runs of cable a standard def cable is fine. For longer runs you will need to upgrade to HD cables. It also requires a USB 3.0 connection to work. I have had no problem using it with my PC, but if you haven't upgraded your computer recently you may have trouble. My computer is outfitted with the following: IntelĀ® Core(tm) i7-2630QM (2.0~2.9GHz, 45W) w/6M L3 Cache - 4 Cores - 8 Threads, 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3/1333 Dual Channel Memory, 60GB IntelĀ® 520 Series SATA III Solid-State Drive, and Windows 7 Premium - 64-Bit w/Full Version OEM + Drivers & Utilities. It will also not accept a standard def signal. It must be a true HD signal if you expect to see an image. There is one other issue that needs to be addressed. Under preferences you need to choose the video format that matches the signal you are receiving. I usually consult the Video Tech about this. The other alternative is to go down the list of options trying each one until you find a setting that works for you.

GREAT Portable Solution! A good way to run your Mobile Black Magic Studio
This unit works Perfect Out the Box! My HP ENVY Laptop with Intel Graphics 16gb Ram installed the software perfectly. I use it with Wirecast to convert framerates to match ATEM Switcher. Works Great and a portable solution, Recently I purchased another box to handle 2 Cameras at once! for a multi-camera live stream!

Garbage, doesn't work with my laptop at all....
Garbage. Have a $3500 SurfaceBook 2 with the latest and greatest everything and this thing makes the USB connection sound, then it makes the sound like its disconnected, and it keeps doing that non stop. Should have went with my gut after reading other reviews about issues this thing has with PC's/USB 3.

I/O now working! Instructions in review.
It took me many months before I got it to finally work. I needed it to work with Media Composer, one of the softwares that supports it, but it kept having intermittent signal breakup and was not reliable enough to lay shows to HDCAM SR. It works very well now, though, after a recent spate of updates and a new USB 3.0 card in my HP z800.This is how i got this device to work with Media Composer:Your usb 3 pci express card must have a newer renesas chip - uPD720201 or uPD720202 with the latest drivers and firmware installed. This is not yet supported for mac. The PCI express card I bought also had extra power supplied to it via a molex connector. I had mine on driver version 3.0.23.0 and firmware version 2.0.2.4. These are downloadable via a third party site (not Renesas's website). After all that is installed, plug in the Ultrastudio SDI. Install the very latest Blackmagic desktop video software. Restart, unplug, plug back in. Everything should work now. The RS422 (remote) port is not supported by Media Composer 6.5 or lower (still waiting to test MC7), but it does work with Blackmagic's software (I also hear it works with adobe software but I did not test it). If you want to use this device for deck control with media composer, you have to have another serial port available or buy a supported third party serial port solution for deck control.I find that this must be the only thing plugged into the PCI express usb card - other devices plugged into the same card may interfere with operations or not work.Works well with outputting SD and HD at SMPTE standard frame rates and dimensions and even less typical formats like 29.97psf.Would have been a 5 star product, but i took 2 away because Blackmagic was no help at all with being specific about the hardware/software/firmware/drivers needed to get this to work - even their phone support didn't know what to do. I had to figure all this out though hours of trial and error.

Not for Skype
Did not reveal that you may only choose in or out at the time. We wanted to use it for Skype. No go.

It works fine. If you are really trying to just get a signal into your computer, Mini-Recorder is cheaper and just as good.
