Excellent Update
The print in this edition of The Philokalia is easier to read than that of many older editions. The commentaries are also a useful addition to this classic spiritual work.

This is NOT the text of the Philokalia
It's a collection of scholarly essays. I wanted the text itself... needless to say, I was disappointed when this arrived. Usually I'm pretty careful with this sort of thing, so shame on me, but still, between the title and subtitle, it *is* kind of confusing.

This is a good book on the Philokalia, especially chapters 1, 7, 9, and 18.
The author of chapter 18, John Chryssavgis, is particularly eloquent and insightful.I would also highly recommend the writings of chapter 1, Kallistos Ware.-Amos Smith (author of Healing The Divide)

It's fine, but it's not what I wanted or thought ...
I was under the impression that this was the actual text of the Philokalia. It is indeed not. It's fine, but it's not what I wanted or thought I was buying.
