See Review.....
I have a Troy Bilt 3000 psi pressure washer that has a Briggs and Stratton 12S912-0121-B1 (8.75 HP "PROFESSIONAL) Engine. Only about 5 hours on it. All was good. Then engine backfired and would not restart. I am a master ASE technician so I quickly found it had spark, and then found the valves not opening. Disassembled motor and found that the plastic timing gear sheared, and the plastic camshaft Lobes were aligned with each other, which means the plastic lobes spun on the metal camshaft. Extremely poor design. The jolt from this actually made the oil slinger/governer fall apart inside the motor. I was able to reassemble the slinger/governor but noticed the holes in the plastic for the pins that hold it together were elongated and would most likely come apart. So here is my recommendation. If you have this problem, do yourself a favor. Get the metal replacement timing gear (Briggs offers now), Replace the camshaft (still plastic), and replace the governor/oil slinger. This should be a set of components to replace at one shot. All you will need also is the sump gasket, and I replaced the drive shaft oil seal that is mounted in the sump case half.

REPLACE THAT DEFECTIVE CAMSHAFT
We can only hope that the Briggs & Stratton engineers improved upon these plastic lobed camshafts. This will help a hundred people if they read this... If you have any type of B&S powered power equipment that “Acts like it wants to start, but won’t, and you’ve pulled the cord a hundred times, you most likely need one of these CAMSHAFTS FOR YOUR ENGINE (correct part number of course, but sold here).Holding the old cam carefully up to the new, holding the tab straight up for a careful comparison... you will see to your amazement, that one of the lobes have —slightly shifted— on the old, defective cam. Install the new one (very easy job) and most likely it will power up (like sweet music) on the first pull!).Good practice will have you install a new sump gasket with #2 ”Form-a-gasket” and new seal in sump cover. Everything lubed up with assembly oil, all available here. Set the valves, FILL THE OIL.God Bless & Stay Safe
