Catch - 22 [DVD]

The craziness of war!!
Terrific, crazy, cynical observation on the futility and absurdity of war. Full of worthy stars and great central character. A thought provoking film derived from an implausible book on the madness of war. Well worth a viewing in my opinion!

One of the greatest films ever made?
You don’t need to have read the book but I think it helps. You do need to be into film to appreciate this masterpiece of film making though. Every single frame is perfectly composed, the director threw out the rule book on several occasions especially regarding sound and time line. Check out the cast too inc Orson Welles. One of my favourite films of all time.

Communicates the Catch.
A much under-rated film that attempts to communicate the original novel in its two hours, more so than the anaemic 2019 Clooney version. Casting & cinematography brilliant.

Catch 22
Although this is supposed to be some sort of cult film, I am afraid that I didn't enjoy it. I got the main message of the film but for me there were too many flash backs to make following it difficult. To me it just didn't run easily. When you concider that the director's last film was the Graduate these two films were in different classes. I have to say that I was a bit disapointed as it is one of the films that I have always wanted to see.

Poor Yosarian, stuck in a crazy world that locks ...
One of those iconic 60's/70's films that plays with your mind. Poor Yosarian, stuck in a crazy world that locks him in a desperate situation. Not everyone was happy to go to war. No heroics. A grafting/skimming/scheming young John Voight, arrogant unfeeling commanders, a beautiful mix of personalities. Another classic film from an era of strange and wonderful movies made during and shortly after the wild sixties. I want out of this-but that means you're sane. You'd be mad to continue but you must. But that's crazy. But that's CATCH-22

A difficult book to film.
Not a great film and I've seen it 3 times over the years. I even saw it when it came out, with my dad. Lots of great actors in it though, and Alan Arkin is always worth watching. The recent TV series probably did a better job, but it's such a difficult book to film. I read the book when I was 16 and loved it, the first book I ever read!

You can't love it or hate it unless you watch it.If you hate it, you already bought it.If you love it, you have to tell other people and they will watch it and hate it.It's Marmite in celluloid. It has Art Garfunkel getting blown up in it though. (spoilers? Major major spoilers?)

LUNATICS TAKING OVER THE ASYLUM
i'M IN THE MIDDLE OF READING THE BOOK, THOUGHT I MIGHT watch the film to make comparisons as there is an updated version screening shortly. The original film is a bit dated now but has a fantastic cast of memorable character actors!
