Large jar
This is a big container of Xanthum gum like it says. I use it in baking to add tooth to my dough and this works. The last I bought was in a bag and I really prefer this container. Great find.SPECIAL NOTE: As an approved Amazon Vine member with Gold status, I am trusted to select items for review (sometimes from a list of almost 100,000 options). Many of these items are new to the market, or a seller simply wants some additional exposure for their product. I am NOT required to review every item in exchange for receiving and trying it out. I only order products that are important to me (ones I know I have an interest in and will use), and always strive to provide an honest evaluation of my experience. I do not automatically give a 4- or 5-star review, because the community of Amazon purchasers deserve to know real thoughts and experiences. So, my reviews are always and only based on my use and testing of the product. In that you can trust 100%. It's also important to note that I pay almost 30% in federal income taxes for each item that I receive, whether I review it or not.

Thickens well, but clumps slightly
This is a review of: 10 oz Xanthan Gum powder,Pure Xanthan Gum for Baking Gluten Free, Xanthan Gum Thickener Suitable for Making Ice Cream, Cake, Yogurt, Candy and More.If you have never used xanthan gum before, it is a low-carb thickener that is typically used in a variety of baked goods, soups, sauces, ice cream, pudding, or many other things that require thickening.I ordered this to be a low-carb thickener for soups and sauces. I have used guar gum before, but this is my first time using xanthan gum.The appearance of the xanthan gum is that it’s a very fine powder. It is pretty easy to sprinkle onto your liquids to thicken them. However, it does clump up pretty badly, and so far, the clumps do not seem to dissolve very well. You have to sprinkle it very finely. The included spoon is not very useful for this, and ends up leaving little dots of xanthium gum over the surface of the liquid. Even when stirring it with a fork afterwards, the clumps do not come out. I find that it works best to take a small pinch between two fingers and lightly sprinkle it over the liquid. You need to do this in a very small amounts at one time, while stirring constantly with the other hand the whole time, or it will still clump. The clumps, should you happen to eat one by accident are not very pleasant. They tend to trap a small amount of the powder inside the clump, which is an unpleasant bite. However, in a chunky soup or stew, you would not notice the small clumps at all. You would definitely notice them in a smoother food like a cream, pudding, or an ice cream.Flavor: The flavor of this seems to be neutral. It neither adds nor detracts from the flavor of the dishes that its added to.Texture: When added to a soup, stew, or sauce, this thickens the sauce without using a very large amount of it. For four to five cups of sauce I would use perhaps ½ teaspoon to a teaspoon of the xanthan gum. It gives soups a better mouthfeel, and a thicker texture. It does this without adding any additional carbohydrates like when you add cornstarch or flour. According to what I have read, you can also add xanthan gum when the soup is hot, unlike cornstarch, however, I have not tried this to see if it works well. When thickened with a lot of xanthan gum, the soup gets a somewhat gooier or slimier mouthfeel to it, so don’t overdo it. If you look at the attached pictures, you will see the xanthan gum mixed into pure water. I took a picture immediately after adding the xanthan gum, and about 10 minutes of the xanthium gum dissolving in the liquid, and you can still see the little clumps.Comparison to Guar gum: this is very similar to Guar gum in many ways. However, I would say it has a higher propensity for clumping, and the clumps do not dissolve out like they will somewhat with guar gum. If you are using this for soups or sauces, I would recommend using guar gum instead. Overall, this is a good low carb thickener that adds little to no flavor to your soups or sauces. Gives soups a more pleasant mouthfeel and a thicker texture. You need very little of it, so this package would last a very long time. The biggest disadvantage to this product, is that you might end up with tiny, unpleasant clumps of gooey powdery substance in your food. To prevent this, sprinkle the xanthan gum very slowly over the surface of your food, while stirring constantly, and you can mostly keep the lumps out. This is a great product for anyone watching their carbohydrate intake.Price and value: This product is a very reasonable price for how much you get. It takes very little xanthan gum to thicken most things, so this will last a long time. This container currently costs 10.99, on Amazon, in September of 2024. This is a good deal for a lot of xanthan. A little goes a long way with this product.

Thickened Protein Shake
I have been making protein shakes for breakfast each morning but as I'm using water as opposed to milk, it seems to be a bit thin and not as enjoyable. As such, I ordered this and have added just a bit of the Xantham Gum to the shake and it worked well to thicken it. I appreciate that this doesn't change the flavor with the small amount I add and yet I get the results I want. This is also a good size gar which I appreciate. All in all, I would order this again and will definitely continue to use it.

Useful container and
I will use this xanthan gum powder to make egg white wraps. I will use the wraps to make meals that are healthy and low carb. The egg white wraps are quite expensive in the store and this way I can make them fresh as needed. Egg white wraps consist of egg whites and xanthan gum and then you cook them on a pan like an omelet. So, should be quick. I appreciate the container it comes in instead of a bag to make it easier to use. I will try this soon and update the review if there is an issue with the consistency or the flavor. 5 stars for now

Economical choice for the home cook
This is a TON of xanthan gum for the price point. Honestly I'll probably never need to buy it again considering you use so little of it in any given recipe. The container is so much better than a resealable bag.

Good thickening agent
As a baker, I make many types of frostings. In the summer, I have difficulty keeping the structure of my butter cream as it is too soft. I add just a bit of this thickener and the frosting becomes very pliable and keeps its structure after piping. It is a good buy.
