My regular top coat wasn't holding the shape that I applied to my nail so this thicker topcoat was great for small chrome designs. It's just a little bit thicker than regular topcoat but it worked perfectly to maintain it's shape and not spread while I worked on my design. It seemed to cure a little faster than regular modeltones topcoat so I only cured it for 10 seconds before applying my chrome powder.

I haven’t noticed a different with retention yet but it is thicker

I switched to Makartt gel line a few months ago due to an allergy, and all of my very well established nail clients ended up with lifting, cracking, and absolute disasters of nails. I would not recommend Makartt to anyone. I triple checked my steps to be sure that I was applying properly, and curing long enough and nothing worked. I was very disappointed

Base is A+, top coat does not level well at all. Top coat container leaks.

So if you're hard on your tips then this is probably good to get. I go to two extremes: I need either peel off base coat or I need something seriously strong. One for short-term because sometimes I like to frequently change my nails; one for normal term longevity and durability because I'm so hard on my nails.So, this is pretty durable. They absolutely do not come off without e-filing (I can't use soaking due to allergies) so there's no peeling. I have no lifting until the end of week 2 using it under gel glue and rubber base, and even then it's not noticeable nor anything I have to repair unless I've been fiddling with it.It's totally colorless going on, one thing coat only. You have to be careful you don't put too much on because it's so thick. It's thicker than Makartt's traditional base coat, or other brands traditional base coats for that matter, and while I don't find Makartt products to normally have very strong odors this does have a slightly lingering chemical odor even after curing. It's not terrible, but I don't have a strong sense of smell.
