Safe Glass ampoule Opener (Purple)

Such a simple little thing but genuinely useful. This glass ampoule opener takes all the stress and mess out of breaking open ampoules safely. The grip is comfortable and the mechanism works smoothly every time. No more worrying about broken glass or nicked fingers. The purple colour is a nice touch and the quality feels solid for something so small. Compact enough to keep in a first aid kit or medicines drawer.

Bought as my partner has Addisons Disease. First one snapped (ampule) in wrong place. Had a go with some out of date and it’s easy when you get into it. Far better than being in a crisis and not being able to snap the glass!

The idea is good, once open it looks easy to use, but it is on the small side, the 3ml ampoules which come with the Antibiotics I am taking are just a bit too large to fit, and the 5ml ampoules I have to use nightly, not a hope of fitting in this device. Edit: When using larger ampoules, you just use the top half to snap off the ampoule, safer than doing it with fingers, would have preferred to be able to fully enclose before breaking. So 4 stars.

A nifty little item. Make sure you keep it in the standing position, place your ampoule (with the dot facing front) in the opener still in the standing position, don't forget to flick down any medication into the main part of the ampoule. Close it and just bend it away from you. If the ampoule is small it will have safely slipped down to the bottom (don't panic) keeping it still in the standing position gently open up top and bottom and gently pick it out, make sure you keep away from the' top' of the ampoule where it has been snapped open. You may find the closures are a bit stiff at first, just gently prize open, it will get easier.

It shattered the glass all over my hand it’s bad quality

I don't like that with some of the smaller amps they drop down when the top breaks and are therefore a bit fiddly to draw up properly. Does help reduce fear of broken glass to the fingers though. Bit tricky/fiddly to use. Might just go back to using the syringe wrapper to snap the amps

Worth the money if your snapping lots of vials like me so that you don’t puncture your hand with glass. Quality piece of kit
