Most satisfactory
Unlike some other reviews, I don't think this is a noisy product. Placed in a unit with the door closed, I can't hear it in operation.I previously had a 60GB PS3, and whilst I think it looked better, it was noisier, and took up a lot more space. The slim PS3 doesn't seem to heat up like my old fat model.Won't play ps2 games, but if that's important you can always keep your ps2 in a cupboard, or if you don't have one already, pick one up for buttons in game / gamestation, etc. With game selling used games quite reasonably in store, it's not difficult to build up a library of games without incurring major expense. All in all this is a top machine. It's not cheap, but with free online connectivity in most games, which really does enliven most titles when you are fed up playing against the computer, built in wireless, built in blu-ray and dvd playback, it's hard to find something not to like.

PlayStation 3
Alright, I think it is time that I gave my two cents about this console.-Just letting you know I will be comparing aspects of this console with the rival xbox 360, however I am trying an un biased review-Hardware:---------So, you spend £200-300 on the next generation games console, that is a true High Definition console, that one of its main selling points is a fully 100% compatible BluRay Player (HD Movies) and can even Upscale original DVD's so in the box you get:1x PS3 Slimline 250GB console1x Standard AC Plug1x PS3 DualShock 3 "sixaxis" controller1x USB A<->B connector1x Standard RGB Connectors with Scart Adapter... huh.. wait a minute, RGB? High Definition console, that comes supplied with the same style RGB cable's as the original PlayStation? Not even a Composite / component style cable. a 100% analog RGB cable. For the record, XBOX 360 (Elite 120GB model) came with: 1x Composite / Component Cable AND a HDMI Cable AND an adapter to plug into your console so you can connect via Phono cables or optical out to a stereo system while using HDMI (other cable has the Digital Optical out aswell) Luckily becuase the 360 came with both style cables, I didn't have to buy an additional HDMI cable. There is another small thing that gets on my nerves regarding the video output, if you have it connected to a HD TV via HDMI (which is really ideal) but then decide to move your console, well like I did, when I took it round a friends, he ony has a 32" standard CRT TV, so I had to use the RGB cable, however you have to reset the console to default out to that signal (holding the powerbutton for a few more secconds) again, 360 reference, it automatically detects which output to use.Now onto the consoles mechanics, the PS3's OS seems very strange, the fact that it has to contiually load information as if it was downloading it from somewhere. Apart from that its pretty basic.I have noticed one thing though, something that is annoying the hell out of me, the console comes with a thing called "Playstation Home" which is like a virtual world for you to go into, like a virtual shopping mall and stuff, however this is something I wasn't interested in, and it took up some hard drive space, that I would rather use for my own media and games. so I use the "Information" section, and notice I can delete it.. so I did, and admitidly it deleted all the data, however now in the "PlayStation Network" section I still have the "PlayStation Home" icon, + "Currupted Data" nice one SonyI don't know if it is just my PS3, but when using the web browser I notice it locks up the system sometimes.(in fact saying that my PS3 has crashed more times then my 360)Now enough about that, lets talk about the lovely controller, Sony really was thinking new ideas with the controller... oh.. wait, its just a normal PS2 style controller with a rather standard motion sensor and without a cable. It has a rechargable battery, which is nice.. until as we know.. rechargable batteries do die down and eventually no longer hold charge, no worries, surely you can change the battery? answer, Nope, if your battery is gone, you now have a fully wired PS3 controller, that or go and buy a new one.The BluRay Disc Drive, can be a noisy thing at times, but overall it is perfect.Other Features:---------------Playstation Online, is free, yay, however I have to say, if you can afford it subscribe to PlayStation Plus, they give you free downloads every month (ones you get to keep forever) I tell ya what, I done it, and I already have the option to make my money back, got a Free downloadable copy of Little Big Planet for being a PSPlus member, now I can sell of the BD versionPSP Connectivity, I do like the fact you can stream some of your PS3 content to your PSP either via the internet or local wifi, things that are not available this way: DVD's, BluRay, PS3 games and any downloaded Movies. You can stream PS1 games, which is cool. However I do find that this is very buggy, sometimes the console locks out, and throws you out.Games:------Of course wouldn't be much of a games console if it didn't have games. Now I have only played a couple of PS3 Exclusives, and of those games I have to say, wow.Little Big Planet - Fun to play, although not really my cup of teaModnation Racers - about as close to mario kart you can get, however the customisation on this is mentalHeavy Rain = absolutly loved the title, the graphics that only the PS3 could provide really made this game compelling (I will review this game one day in more detail)As for other, Cross-platform games;GTA4 - seems to play exactly like the PC & 360 versions, with the exception you can use the motion controller on some partsDragon Age - Rented this through LoveFilm to compare with the 360 version, now it seems a bit smoother, colours a little more vivid (that could be down to playing through HDMI - 360 Component), but all the graphical glitches are still thereFinal Fantasy XIII - exactly the same, only difference is its on one disc instead of 3.Multimedia Playability:-----------------------The PS3 can support a massive amount of media formats, including that of DivX and XviD, it also has ATRAC, WMA all the MPEG support, it truely is a masterpeice of media, however it doesn't seem to know how to use categories yet, a system update to allow a better player to arrange media might be neededI like the visualisations you can get while playing music (my fave is one that shows you the earth in glorous high def)The video playback is perfect, and it connects to my Tversity Media server easily, however I have noticed that videos that once played, no longer do, maybe a compatiblity from updating PS3 and the software on PC but still it is great.DVD Playback, it supports all DVD formats, and even upscales them when using HDMI, which of course is nice.BluRay Playback, as of time of writing this review (23rd Sept 2010) Sony have updated the console to allow BluRay 3D titles to be played, woop, however the quality of BluRay on the PS3 is as you would expect, brilliant, although I have had a few BD's that I rented from LoveFilm that crashed my system from the JAVA software (disc was probably scratched or something)Now the PS3 is supposed to be the most powerful games console on the market, that I don't doubt, but it is unable to multi-taskfor example, again on the 360, I can play Music either stored on the 360 or stream it over from my PC while playing ANY 360 title,The PS3 can't seem to do this though, good or bad thing depends on the user.Playing a MP3 files really doesn't use that much resource, so it can't be that.So... what do I think of the PS3;Overall for a games console, it is top notch, however you will want to see what exclusive titles the console has before commiting, if you want a bluray player, then it might be worth looking into a ps3, however BD players are getting cheaper now, well a lot more cheaper then the PS3 so if it is just that, then save some cash.as an owner of both 360 and PS3 I would highly reccomend the PS3, even after all my bashing, only because the games I played on the PS3 seem more enjoyable, that and the fact that the PlayStation Network store has Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX as downloadables + a lot more (which by the way you can play on the go on your PSP)PS3 is a home media entertainment system, it does it all, yes it has some flaws, but then so do all consoles these days.

Excellent!
Delivered VERY quickly by Amazon. Within moments of delivery, this was easily up and running! HDMI lead connected, then the controller and finally the power. Just input your WEP key and there you go, it's a snap.Blu-ray is amazing and the games equally so. Being able to watch the BBC iplayer on the big screen is an added bonus.Previous reviewers say that the fan is noisy, well not so at least not on this one or others I've seen. There are but two little things Sony could have improved on.Firstly, these are the days of full HD display or at least HD ready TV's so they could have included a HDMI cable with the package. C'mon Sony, these aren't expensive anymore.Secondly, this slim version has a matt black finish, not the best idea for something which will attract dust. Far better to have had the smooth 'piano black' casing as with the 'fat' PS3.These are very small niggles and hardly worth a mention. When you would expect to pay almost as much for just a blu-ray/DVD player, this really does so much more and certainly worth the price.

Great console and great value for the price.
I bought this for me as a birthday treat.. works great, only gripe is it didn't come with an ethernet cable or scart socket to HDMI adapter.. as it said on the box I had to buy the cable but thankfully I didn't need the adapter.

Disk Error
Recently just purchased a PS3, When arrived I set it up and everything looked fine and working, until I inserted a game and would not run & wouldn't come out, previously had a playstation 3 and know when these consoles do not work, for me not acceptable for the price paid. Hopefully be rewared with my money back.

Good console when fixed
Great console, though I'm not sure how a snapped plug passes as 'Acceptable' condition.
