Excellent camera - but read these tips before fitting
I've now owned my Netvue camera for a couple of weeks. I'm very pleased with it. It was easy to set up, it seems very reliable, it works well with Alexa and the daylight picture quality is excellent. Night vision is surprisingly good too. A few tips: The camera works with 2.4g WiFi, not 5g. It helps to switch your phone to 2.4g when setting it up. My WiFi signal is not strong where the camera is located, but even with a weak signal the camera seems very reliable. Play back either from the cloud or the sd card works well. The leads attached to it are quite bulky. You only need the small power lead unless you want to hard wire the ethernet connection. I decided to drill just a 10mm hole for the power lead and put the rest of the fittings in a waterproof external junction box, located next to the camera. I pulled the power lead from inside and connected it up inside the junction box. I took care to position the junction box so that it did not interfere with the adjustment of the camera angle. In any case the leads are not very long coming out of the camera. To get all three through a cavity wall would be very tricky, and they might not be long enough anyway. When drilling the hole in the wall , attach a bit of strong thread to the end of the drill bit before retracting it. You can then use the thread to pull though the lead from the power adapter. (very important if you have a cavity wall) The WiFi antenna is slightly awkwardly positioned especially if you want to angle the camera to the left. I did quite a bit of experimentation with the camera angle before screwing it to the wall. Then I just made final fine adjustments. It was a bit fiddly but the end result was OK. I feel the positioning of the antenna on the camera could be improved. Think about how high to position the camera. Too low and intruders could reach it and obscure or damage it. Too high and it will not capture faces. Again I experimented before settling on my final fitting location. It is well worth putting a 128gb sd card in the camera to supplement any cloud recording. If you do this you will only need the cloud service as a backup. Fit the card in the camera BEFORE screwing the camera to the wall. The screws holding the access plate to the inside are a bit stiff and you will lose them if you try to unscrew them in situ. Be aware that there are privacy laws affecting the use of cctv cameras. Check that you comply with these. At the very least you will need to display some warning signs that cctv is in use, and its purpose. I think netvue ought to include info about this and maybe a couple of yellow stickers. I found it very easy to link the camera to Alexa and it is easy then to view the camera on an Alexa device including a fire TV stick by the command "Alexa, show Driveway". (or whatever name you have given the camera) I experimented a lot with the motion zones and sensitivity. In the end I left it on all zones and maximum sensitivity. This means every tiny movement including insects and rain triggers event recording. I then disabled notifications to my phone so that I did not get incessant notifications. I decided that I would not particularly want to deal with intruders in real time. I hope the camera will mostly act as a deterrent, but if someone is persistent I will at least have a record of their activity that hopefully will he useful to the police. ........... Overall I am very pleased with the camera. The only problem I had was that my WiFi failed and the camera lost connection. This was not a fault of the camera. It was resolved by switching off and restoring the power to the camera. It then reconnected to my (weak) WiFi signal without my intervention. Netvue have given me a complimentary basic one year cloud subscription. This is nice to have, but only as a backup. Using an sd card provides a more instant access to full recording, rather than short bursts via the cloud. I will decide when this expires whether to pay for ongoing cloud access. I probably would not bother with any of the offered supplementary cloud services each of which comes at incremental cost.

Good bit of kit
As I had already purchased a Netvue Wi-Fi doorbell and been very pleased with it buying the Netvue Vigil camera(s) was an obvious next step as they offer SD card recording and playback capability without needing to purchase cloud based storage, it’s just a case of mounting the units out of easy reach. Came neatly packaged with everything you need, wall plugs, screws mounting template, power supply and even a drill, only real issue with mounting the unit is the fact that you will need a separate junction box for the Ethernet, power and reset switch plugs, or be prepared to drill a 25mm hole through your wall (I made a mounting box from scratch so all the wiring is tucked out of the way). As I already have the Netvue app for the Wi-fi doorbell set-up was ridiculously easy, selected the device type, entered the device ID number, give the device a name and away you go. Likewise setting the camera(s) up for Alexa was just as simple, just add new camera device select Netvue and wait for device discovery. Use an Echo Spot and a Fire 7 Tablet to view the image from the camera as well as a smart phone, connects within 4-15 seconds, smart phone connection tends to be faster than the Alexa devices. Image is pin sharp and bright during the day, night vision is of course of lower monochrome quality but range is excellent (pity the Wi-Fi door bell is not as good). Motion detection is zoned so selected parts of the camera view can be turned on or off, sensitivity levels can also be adjusted, takes a still image for initial notification, and if you have cloud or Micro SD storage will also give you a 10 second playback or full playback of an event (everything is time/date coded so its easy to find the right spot). Also works with Alexia notifications to tell you that motion is detected in either the front or back garden. Given the relative youth of this technology I am really pleased with these unit(s) one covering the front of the property and one the back, does everything that I need it to do at an affordable price, would buy again or recommend it to anybody.

Great camera but buyer beware
Great camera for the price and easy to set up following the app instructions. Only fault I have with the camera is at night when the infra red lights are used, if it rains or snows any drops falling close to the camera activates the motion alert. When viewing the alert it comes up as a long white streak across the picture. It’s because the infra red lights are next to the lens. I was going to buy a separate infra red light and mount it away from the camera to stop the false motion alerts. But I found that when you switch off the camera lights the camera cannot pick up infra red light from another source. So unless you mount the camera under an overhang which shelters the camera from rain or snow, then you are going to get a lot of false alerts. Netvue said they now have an update that differentiates human movement from animals or weather etc. This system is only available if you subscribe to their cloud recording service. Also if you find the live view you see at night is cloudy as if the lens had fog on it, it means the camera is too close to a surface which is reflecting light from the infra red lights back onto the lens. You will have to tilt or move the camera. Great camera though and I bought a second one for my drive. WARNING - since my first review Netvue have started to promote their cloud subscription service by stopping access to SD card motion alerts, stopping you checking what caused the alert as you try to go back in time to check what was recorded. They are doing this every few months by inserting a promotional screen about their cloud service when you try to go to the screen which allows you to go back in time and view events. At the top of the screen there is an option to just go to the sd card as normal, but when you tap this, another screen pops up telling you the memory card needs formatted ( which it doesn’t). If you try to format the card which will delete all video saved on it, it then comes up that the card mount failed. I just power down the camera and leave it 24 hours. Sometimes it clears the promotional screen and goes back to normal working - sometimes it doesn’t and I power it down again. So if your house is broken into or property damaged etc you will not be able to go back the cameras recordings to see what happened or view the burglars. This is not acceptable to me from Netvue. If I want to subscribe to the cloud service I would, but I do not like being bullied by having my camera made incapable of checking sd card recordings because they want to promote and try to force you into taking out a subscription. What’s the point of buying these products if they are rendered useless by the company. Will they pay for any loss or damage to my property because they switched off the capability to record to my sd card ? Customer services just keep telling people that their sd card is faulty and needs replaced - lies. After I got my camera working again by powering it down several times over 48 hrs, the card worked fine. I have two cameras which go down at the same time so this is not an sd card issue. It’s Netvue bullying you into taking out a monthly subscription. I will not be buying any more of their products and I am looking to other camera manufacturers to replace my Netvue cameras. Shocking way to treat customers. You have been warned.

Excellent!!!
I have several Netvue cameras now and each one I buy just gets better and better. I got the outdoor camera because a number of dogs have gone missing out of peoples gardens and as my house has a dirt road at the side I’m always nervous that one of my fur babies might get stolen. With this camera my mind is at total ease. It goes beyond what I imagined if I’m honest. I was nervous about the installation as I knew it had to be drilled but it’s supplied with the right drill bit and came with clear instructions. I was really impressed with myself! It has a brilliant picture quality, far better than I imagined it would. The added bonus is that it’s got 2 way audio, so if I’m not at home and my son lets the dogs out I gently encourage them to do their business (my son always forgets and the pups are creatures of habit, they need a reminder when outside) I was stunned how clear the audio is. I expected one to be better than the other but sound AND picture quality are just amazing. At night I have complete peace of mind, if I hear a noise come from outside I can just look on the camera instead of hiding under my duvet! The night vision is really good. It’s easy to install, set up and use. It’s very good quality for a relatively low cost. Will be adding more to my Netvue set up very soon.

Finally I can see what's going on outside! (on my phone and on Echo Spot!)
I'm loving this! We have a particularly awkward outdoor view, and cannot see the gate or visitors without going outdoors and round the corner, so I decided to be brave and try an outdoor camera, although it did seem a bit sci-fi and hi-tech for our rather basic household.... Ordered yesterday, delivered today, watching everything this evening! The physical installation was a bit trying, but that was as much to do with the awkwardness of our setting as anything else - it took several attempts to work out how to get the all-round rotation of the camera to work (you have to loosen something otherwise it seems just to go up and down, so you can't easily get the view you want straight off), but it was well worth the effort and fiddling around. The software set-up is very simple due to a brilliant interface which walks you through everything in the most basic fashion. Being able to scan the camera label means that you instantly connect with the correct item (instead of having to search a list and still being unsure you've selected the right model, as used to be the norm for installing new bits of kit). The instructions work perfectly, and give you reassuring feedback - but you do need to be patient while waiting for it to connect. With both my indoor and outdoor camera I had to reset both the camera and our router. Knowing how easily I got my first (indoor) camera to work, I just needed to be a bit more patient than I was to start with for the outdoor camera - but that just allowed me the opportunity of testing the easily accessible (via the app) helpdesk which was much quicker than most "instant" chats, and was able to tell me when my camera was on-line simply by dint of me having contacted them through the app which had already identified the camera. The hardware looks to be durable and good quality; the picture is superb; and having discovered I can now watch the gate from my desk via my Echo Spot, I don't need to drain the battery on my iPhone all the time by watching what's going on! I've not tested the night vision yet, but knowing that the indoor camera has excellent night vision I'm assuming this will be as good. Finally, I have also discovered that individual cameras can be linked to more than one Netvue account, which means that my husband and I have both the outdoor camera and the indoor bedroom camera (for checking whether the baby is awake from her nap) whilst a friend can see just the outdoor camera to watch for deliveries or work out why the burglar alarm is going off, but can't see our bedroom. Couldn't be more pleased.

Easy Setup and Good Picture
I ordered this to replace a cheap camera that kept loosing its settings and so far this camera has worked really well. Setup was very simple using the app' after which it updated its firmware and was ready to use within an hour of opening the box, including setting it up with Alexa, which also works really well on this camera. The only downside is that you can't view this on the web, only via the app' and Alexa, so you won't be able to stream it live online, however you can post your recordings if thats what you want it for. I have also noticed that heavy rain can trigger the motion capture even when set to human only but to be fair this setting is a beta test so will likely get better in time. I installed a 128gb SD card which looks like it will give me a several days of HD recording, if you want to save space on the card then you also have the option of it recoding only when motion is detected. I have also setup cloud storage for when motion occurs and that is very cheap compared to some other makers costing less then $20 for the year. The camera is well built and adjustable on two axis when fitting to get the angle correct, I have it coving my drive and front garden, so I needed it angled slightly downwards which is a very easy adjustment using the supplied hex key. From start to finish this has been the easiest camera to install and setup that I have ever tried and the picture quality in daytime and at night is very good, sharp and clear, giving me piece of mind now for our security. I am now thinking of getting another one for my back garden, then both cameras can be viewed from the same app'. Very good quality and great value, Recommended.

UPDATE: THE CAMERA NOTIFIES US OF RAINDROPS BUT NOT THIEFS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA!?!?
UPDATE: EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! These cameras send us notifications whenever a rain drops (on rainy nights, we wake up to over 80+ notifications) HOWEVER, when a thief walks right up in front of the camera onto our driveway, it doesn't pick it up and notify us at all!?!?! And on any of the two cameras?? We only realised there were thiefs on our road as our neighbour told us about it and asked if we wanted to check our cameras' footage too. We had to watch about two hours' worth of footage on both cameras before we found the footage of the thiefs! How does the camera not pick this up? And I can't believe we had to watch every single second to get to what we wanted to find. You are not able to watch footage in fast motion or download the footage to watch in fast motion on your PC either. You have to press record within the app whilst watching to capture the footage onto your phone. Feels like a big design flaw. We were also unable to see the thiefs face clearly enough to identify them either (feel free to watch the attachment). We will be sending a complaint to NetVue. We were so pleased with our new cameras (even if it gave us too many notifications) until now - not being able to capture the important and most obvious motions! Two more things, we have noticed the cameras often fail to record 5-10 seconds now and then, as footage jumps forward in time when rewatching some footage. Some recorded motions also fail to ever actually become available on our apps. We have already bought two wifi extenders so it's not a signal issue. Just random footage not available - the error message says "Due to network issues, the data may not be uploaded successfully. For safety, please check the surroundings." What does that even mean? Isn't the footage recorded on our memory card we placed within the camera? Why would it not then become available on our apps eventually once wifi is in good signal??? PREVIOUS REVIEW: As long as you have a good wifi connection at home (I had to buy an internet extender) - the camera picks up almost every single motion and notifies you. This includes cars, people, dogs, foxes and even rain and insects... I'm yet undecided if this is a good or a bad thing - I guess it depends how much you want to see? I'm about a week in on using it and most days connection is good and I receive all sensible motion notifications but on howling rainy days, I can receive a notification almost every 5 minutes - I wish the camera was a little bit smarter but I think this will probably be the case with all cameras in this day and age. My favourite thing about the NetVue cameras is you can put a SD card into it and therefore not need to pay a subscription for a cloud service unlike Ring and other similar competitors which continues to charge you after you've bought their product. As I have an SD card, I can replay moments over and over again without paying for anything extra (except for the one off fee of buying the SD card). It's so good, I wish NetVue did their own version of the Ring doorbell as my Ring doorbell is an absolute nightmare - subscription, poor audio, lag - none of which I've had with NetVue - thankfully. I've not had experience with many cameras so I can only assume quality doesn't get much better these days but if I was to wish for anything, I would hope one day, night vision and quality of recordings are clearer - clear enough to not have to squint at registration plates. Will definitely be looking to purchase some indoor cameras now I've had a good experience with my two outdoor NetVue cameras I have bought. Overall 4* only due to imperfect night vision and video quality. Otherwise 100% 5*.

Excellent camera, good App and great value for money.
This camera was purchased as a stand alone quick security solution, without having to spend a fortune on a complete CCTV system for my mother’s house now she moved in to live with me. The initial setup was straightforward and the image quality is excellent both day and night. The two way audio is impressive as it picks up low level sound and even the bird's dawn chorus every morning, but I don’t think I will personally be using the inbuilt speaker to talk to anyone arriving at the front door. The cables from the camera were just long enough to lead in through an upstairs opening window above the front door to obtain a power supply from an existing wall socket outlet. The wifi signal has been paired to a permanent mobile hotspot broadcast from a spare mobile phone I had available, as a landline broadband router was not available. The Netvue phone application is easy to use and makes remote viewing and setup straight forward with the enclosed instructions. The motion alert function works well and sends me a notification each time movement is detected. However I do have it set on the lowest sensitivity as the camera can be falsely activated by car headlights and shadows moving in the field of view in the position I have it installed. A Scandisk Extreme 64gb micro SD card is installed (purchased separately) and is giving me just under 8 days continuous recording. This data can be viewed and accessed remotely from the camera through the Application and it can be downloaded onto my phone to record any video that may be of interest. This is adequate for my needs and so I do not necessarily need to subscribe to the Netvue cloud service. It has turned out to be a great camera. It is well made with a solid construction and now looks like a professional looking CCTV installation at the property. I have since purchased another one that is now at the rear of the property. You will not be disappointed with the quality if you decide to purchase this Netvue bullet camera.

Seller sent wrong product...
The seller sent another brand camera. It was returned, and refunded by Amazon. I already own NETVUE cameras and can highly recommend the cameras, but not the seller.
