Should be required reading for all art students in this post modern discourse
I used these essays to inform a series of digital artwork. While Professor Steyrel and I donβt always agree on conclusions of meaning, I find her observations and narrative fascinating and enjoyed reading and picking apart these essays.

OUTSTANDING ESSAYS - DONT MISS THEM!
In the same way bell hooks teaches us critical pedagogy, Steyerl approaches us to photography, cinema, image and visual perception in a very critical way. The essays are plenty of information, make you think from a very critical angle, teaches what you will not find in other books. Three of the essays I found marvelous: "In defense of the poor image", "In free fall: A thought experiment on vertical perspective" and "The spam of the earth: Withdrawal from representation". Others are very good as well. Very original. Steyerl obviously is an intellectual with extraordinary knowledge and culture. It is a book for people really committed in understanding the value of the image in the nowadays. What about the future? Get the book!

A timeless piece of our time
in her rhythmic pounding of mind-boggling descriptions down the rabbit hole of contemporary consumption based society, Hito explores the current socio-economic forces that painstakingly chisel through the traditional human structures. With immeasurable grace and virtuosity she pounces through linguistics, political and economical models, sometimes at great pace; but if you just manage to follow the thread - you shall be rewarded greatly. Needless to say - this book is written in a sublime level of English which is an authentic delicacy to feast your brain on. MORE, MORE, MORE

Excellent clear writing - thought provoking ...
A wonderful collection of essays - each one a gem. And please note that this is written by Hito Steyerl - and should not be credited to Franco Berardi (who writes a short intro).
