It's awesome.
i bought this item quite sceptical at first. there are so many on the market and at first it seemed confusing which one i should buy. I bought this one because of it's "Smart Translators" and it's 1:1 Sensitivity. It arrived 2 days after i ordered it and it worked without a hitch. Sometimes it's a little frustrating trying to find a supported game config to work with an unsupported game but generally you can work out which ones work by how each game plays. There's only 1 thing about the XIM Edge that drops it to 4 stars for me. and that is that i always have to have my wired controller plugged in. Wires don't really bother me. But the wired controller wires are so long it's difficult to keep track of what it's getting tangled around. Either way. Fantastic product. Works and i would recommend it to anyone looking for something to give them an "almost pc" experience. I know i'm impressed and i'm very much a PC gamer.

This little piece of equipment is fantastic... I read lots of reviews on other products similar but went for this one even though it was a little more expensive. It is so easy to set up and configure and now I can play console games with PC set up..Very happy customer.

Transforming FPS on PS3 and X-Box - yes its that good
I've been looking at the XIM for a while, and when the XIM3 was superceded by the cheaper XIM Edge, and when I saw I could have it next day from Amazon...I simply couldn't resist. Firstly, if you import it directly from XIM you can get it cheaper, although it's not quite as cheap as it looks as shipping is $38 - and when you factor in duty and VAT, I think it comes out around £100 delivered. Cheaper than the £125 I paid, but not that much.Anyway, onto the product itself. What is the XIM? I'll skim over this part because the chances are if you've searched for this product you already know what it does. In short though, the XIM Edge is a neat little product which enables you to play games on the X-Box with a mouse and keyboard rather than the X-Box controller. There are several similar products on the market but none quite as accomplished as the XIM, mainly because of "smart translators".One of the issues is that X-Box games are coded for use with a controller, and simply plugging a mouse in leads to all kinds of issues with incorrect tracking, jerky movement etc. XIM's smart translators (which are included in the software that you download from XIM's website) are specific to games such as Battlefield 3, Counterstrike, Halo, COD etc, and effectively provide you with 1:1 mapping, resulting in an experience which is extremely close to playing on a PC. Smart translators don't exist for every game, but they are generally released for the big games within a few days/weeks of their release. The XIM Edge looks rather underwhelming on first inspection, in a plain white box which is light as a feather. All you get is a quick start guide, the small unit itself and a USB to mini cable. In terms of connections, one side of the unit plugs directly into the USB port on your X-Box or PS3 and three USB ports on the opposite side are for your mouse, keyboard and wired controller. The cost of the XIM is only part of the picture, as you obviously need a mouse (a decent high DPI gaming mouse), a keyboard and an official Microsoft wired gamepad. Check XIMs website first though, as not all mice/keyboards are compatible. e.g. my Logitech K700 wireless keyboard wouldn't work properly with some important keys failing to bind, but luckily I have a Logitech G15 wired keyboard from my PC gaming days which works like a treat.Crucially, before installing everything (which needs to be done on a PC), have a good read on XIMs website and watch all of their videos. It will only take you a few minutes to set up your XIM when it arrives, but the videos make it nice and painless, and bar tweaking your binds and sensitivities in-game, you'll be up and running in minutes. Just to clarify, you initially set up the XIM on a PC including setting all of your key binds, profiles etc, but after that it will live connected to your console. So just how good is the XIM Edge?In short, it's awesome. It's been many years since I gamed properly on PCs, and ever since making the transition to consoles I've hated using Gamepads for first person shooters. I'm not bad, e.g. playing lots of TDM on BF3, my K:D ratio is consistently above 1.5:1, but I miss the finesse and the ability to track smoothly even while moving. You simply can't do this properly with a pad.Once properly dialled in (and you can adjust the look and ADS look on the fly in-game, which is excellent), it feels remarkably like playing on PC rather than X-Box, and the precision is everything you'd expect. In short, it's given shooters a new lease of life for me, and a week in I'm steadily getting the feel for mouse/keyboard control again. What else is good about the XIM then? Here's a few random things in no particular order:1. Can be used on both PS3 and X-Box with no additional hardware (unlike the XIM3)2. It's cheaper than the XIM33. You can set up profiles for each game and bind them to your keyboard for instant access (e.g. F1 for BF3 on X-Box, F2 for COD on PS3 etc)4. Each profile has its own colour which appears on the XIM when selected, so you always know which profile you're using5. Profiles are great for specific classes in the same game e.g. you can have a sniper profile which automatically holds your breath when in ADS mode6. In-game configuration allows you to make changes to binds, sensitivity on the fly, and the XIM helpfully flashes to let you know what mode you're in, when you're changing a bind etc - it's very flexible, meaning you don't need to connect the XIM back to your PC to make configuration changes.7. It may look expensive, but if you were considering getting back into PC gaming then it begins to look cheap when you consider the cost of that next graphics card8. Most of your friends probably play on consoles, so now you can join them without suffering controller rage. In short, you now have no excuse to keep playing on PC with no friends.9. It works. Pretty much flawlessly. After the good, the bad must come. Are there any weaknesses to the XIM? Not necessarily, but it's not for everyone:1. One of the nice things about consoles is you can chill on your sofa. With a controller that's easy, but mouse and keyboard? There are ways around it, but it's a different ball game. Luckily I have my X-Box set up on my main large screen TV in the living room, but also a monitor in my study, so using a mouse and keyboard is easy.2. Wires. There's lots of them. Well alot more than the zero number of wires most people have with their X-Boxes. And if you don't play at a desk, you'll have them trailing across your floor.3. If you don't have a decent mouse and keyboard, nor a wired controller, then the cost will run you to over £200. But again, mostly it will be ex-PC gamers who buy this, so most will probably have the first two, and the latter is only £20 (it does need to be an official wired controller though). Now for the controversial question: IS USING A XIM CHEATING?In my opinion the answer is a clear "no". Microsoft themselves have said it's not cheating and is a valid input device, unlike Turbo/Rapid-Fire controllers. Previously I used a Razer Onza Tournament Controller, and my K:D ratio jumped from 1:1 to 1.5:1 compared to the normal microsoft controller. Currently my K:D ratio has dropped as I get used to the mouse and keyboard again, but it's important to remember that a XIM doesn't = Godmode. It's not an aimbot, it's not a hack, and it's dependant on the player aiming and moving properly. It's no different to using a steering wheel in a racing game, where the wheel allows much more sensitive inputs compared to a controller. And this is the crux of it imho.Despite the wires trailing across my desk and the extra hardware needed, I now wouldn't be without my XIM. I'm still not the best player in the world but I'm enjoying BF3 again, and I made the right choice. As a final point, it's worth noting that I was considering going back to PC gaming. What stopped me was the fact of 1080p console gaming coming soon (X-Box 720), most of my friends being on consoles, and the fact that I can now game properly with a mouse and keyboard.XIM Edge = highly recommended.

Probably the best console peripheral on the market.
Being an old school FPS pc player I have always struggled to play call of duty and other FPS type shooters on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. My son and his mates would kick my ass royaly every time!!!I've tried a few different gadgets to be able to use the mouse and keyboard but none were that good. Then i saw this little beauty on youtube. At first i was a bit sceptical as all the other devices i'd tried said they were the answer. And the price put me off a bit too. So i dug deeper and read up more about it. Then i found out that this thing has its own community and xim teams. Just go to the website and have a look around.Anyway, i took the plunge and ordered one. Came within 2 days and i hooked it up to my pc and loaded up the profiles for all the top games (both xbox & PS3). Then plugged it into my xbox with the mouse and keyboard. Oh My Sweet Lord this thing is incredible. It is a true 1 to 1 input from the mouse which is exactly what every PC gamer will tell you is essential. You can set the sensitivity on the fly and bind any key pattern you desire. All in all this is a fantastic device and worth every penny. Now for some payback with my son and his mates ;)

Great for the XBox
I'm useless at 1st person shooters with the controller. So I bought this along with a Logitech G13 and a G700 gaming mouse (you also need a wired Xbox controller for authentication. A wireless controller with play & charge will NOT work). The combination of all three/four means playing MW3 (and other 1st person shooters), is so much better and easier to play.I highly recommend this piece of kit, I would never go back to a controller.
