I'm so upset that I didn't like this product
I'm so upset that I didn't like this product. I ultimately bought this to take notes in class and for that this tablet just isn't going to cut it. HP went just too big here and as an engineering student I really need a rear facing camera for my notes when the professor's draw picture examples on the board (which is frequent). The reason i say I wanted to like this so bad was because I've been using it to watch hulu & netflix and its awesome! I really feels like the imax of tablets! But its just too big to be used in a practical sense to take notes and use as a real table. This thing literally takes up your entire lape when sitting indian style. You just about have to use two hands to surf the net because theres just that much real estate to cover on the screen to click something on the left or right of the screen. Also not a deal breaker but just annoying is the sounds this tablet makes when you click apps and other things....it just sounds like a real archaic sounding old type of sounds you'd hear on a computer from like a decade ago....constantly hearing that was just annoying. Additionally about a quarter of content you view shows up pixelated...tis is not due to the tablet at all but just due to the fact that the designers of the app you are viewing did not design the graphics to be viewed on a 17 inch screen so viewing it that big distorts it. Sometimes when you are trying to checkmark bubbles on a survey or something its a guessing game to find the right spot that the tablet will bubble it. It became a normal thing for me to just tap something like 5 times then pull my finger away to see if it was bubbled in....sometimes this can be fixed by zooming in but sometimes you can't zoom in or sometimes you just want to be able to view the whole survey not constantly zoom in for each bubble then zoom out....this screen is 17 inches this should not be a con for this device so something needs to be fixed there. If HP were to make a device like this that was made solely to play video apps like hulu, hbogo, netflix, foxnow, etc. I would gladly buy such a device for about $50 but I didn't spend $225 nor can I justify spending that much on something just for watching videos....however awesome they are to watch.

I'm not sure why others don't like it. I don't understand why people review things ...
I'm not sure why others don't like it. I don't understand why people review things they don't understand. There is a reviewer here who is upset it's not a window tablet, and also thought it was a IOS based tablet. Shouldn't leave negatives reviews for something you don't understand. As for the Android device it's supposed to be, it's great. It doesn't run the latest android, which is it's downfall. And it can't go into portrait mode, but small setbacks for such a large tablet. This runs all those common apps without a problem. Examples are: Facebook, Messenger, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, What's app, Kik, Voxer, Snapchat, and many many others. The USB seems to work well and I use the bluetooth a lot. Haven't had a problem with either. The only problem I noticed is the tablet will require a restart when it's been in standby for a prolonged amount of time. Otherwise it will take a long time to connect to a wireless network. Not really a problem, just kind of annoying. The biggest downfall is the camera. It absolutely sucks! It's grainy bad lighting, things come out dark, and seems to point a little high. But I didn't buy it for the camera, so for me it's no big deal. However if you plan to use the camera a lot. I highly recommend something different. It's great to help with my nursing courses and really recommend it. It's quick, easy to use, and the large screen is bright and responsive. The speakers are also pretty loud considering it is a tablet. Makes watching movies or listening to courses/music enjoyable. I kind of wish it came with a stylus and features like a note 4, but it's not actually needed. It's still easily one of my favorite tablets.

Battery died too soon
Started out well. I really liked the size. A little large, but that's what I wanted. Purchased mid August of this year, and now at the first of December, the battery lasts only a couple of hours. That is not even powered up. I charge it at night till fully charged....boot it up....shows 100% charge. turn it off....wait till it is completely off and put it in the case. Next morning it will not boot up. Battery completely discharged. I am going to see if somehow I have a warranty that will cover the bad battery.UPDATE. I played with this all day and finally figured out that the problem lies with the on-off button. For some reason it got a little fussy and by not allowing a boot up....led me to believe that the battery was dead. I need to hold the button just right to get it to power up. This is something new, but I guess I can live with that, because I do like the tablet.

Actually quite great!
Before I purchased this, I read every review. People said it was too heavy to replace their tablet. Honestly, if you're thinking of buying this 17" slate as a replacement for a tablet, you *will* be disappointed because it's quite heavy. However, if you're looking for an Android device to somewhat replace a desktop or you just want something that's mobile that you can use for business purposes, you won't be disappointed! I mean, it is - after all - a 17" Slate. The name actually indicates the weight in a sense. Now, for those of you who use websites or applications that use Flash Player to properly run (or run at all), DO NOT BUY THIS. Adobe no longer supports Android beyond the 4.0 version. All those sites that tell you that you can download an archived version of Flash Player lie to you. You indeed cannot do that. You'll receive an error and ruin the tablet. One of my friends did this and had to call HP to get the thing back to factory settings. My advice is this: if you need something with Flash Player capabilities, don't get a tablet, get a laptop that doubles as a tablet. A 2-in-1 is going to be your best bet for something like that.HP, good job on the Slate series.
