Having preferred over-the-head headphones for the past 20 years, I have gone through many pairs. These are on another level. I heard a different layer of one of my favourite songs because other headphones have not picked up the bass as well as these. A stellar choice.

Amazingly good headphones at an incredible price. Most reviews put them on par (or better!) with the ATH-M50x. Excellent purchase.

Excellent HiFi headphone.
Based on an positive review on Head-Fi I bought these Denon HP-700's from Music Matters for this bargain price. They are seen as a direct competitor of the Audio Technica ATH-M50x. I have never listened to those but these Denon HP-700's I know well and have listened to them for the last three months. They have the same body as the Allen and Heath XD-53 DJ headphones, but the driver on the HP-700 is 40mm and the Driver on the Allen and Heath XD-53 is, surprise, surprise,53mm. Allen and Heath were once owned by Denon hence the similarities in the headphone body. Whilst DJ headphones usually bring the idea of powerful bass, these HD-700's have an amazing treble clarity and detail. Bass and mid-range are proportioned against that high end and produce a very musical sound, clarity and detail being the essence. They are mainly very strong plastic and typically DJ shaped. The headband is reinforced with steel and they do feel strong and solid. On the can cover there is a stainless steel Denon logo. Compared to more high end headphones such as the PSB M4U-1 and Yamaha Pro 400 there is a relative graininess but heard on their own this is a headphone I doubt anyone would dislike. At £59.00 these are a genuine bargain and punch above their price easily. Although the lead is not exchangeable it is cleverly half coiled and stretches well. Excellent for DJ'ing. They are fairly easy to drive and are loud enough through my Sony Z3 mobile phone. They will be louder from an iPhone. They are a little heavy and ugly as portable headphones though, and do not suit street wear. Although they are made as a DJ headphone I would in fact recommend them as a HiFi headphone due to the fantastic detail they have. The review on Head-Fi says they are better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50x. I don't know if that is true but at £59.00 they are as cheap as chips and worth every penny.Update 13-09-2015As a headphone collector I sometimes don't listen to a particular pair of headphones a lot. I have recently been using these again. The slight graininess has definitely gone. Surprised at the lovely treble detail that is never harsh. Bass is meaty and seems to tailor itself as needed by the track. Midrange forward enough to not get lost behind the band. Treble is very pleasant indeed and forward in a way that is different to most headphones. Soundstage is reasonable on many tracks but no where near as wide as good open headphones or other closed headphones like the AKG K551 or AKG K545. Lacks the richness of the Monster DNA, DNA Pro and the various Monster Inspirations, and also lacks the big sound of the PSB M4U-1 and the Yamaha Pro400's but then these are only £59. At £59 pretty hard to better. A good all rounder with a nice tone to the sound.

One of the best DJ Headphones I've owned
Great sound - powerful drivers - if you DJ Tech or deep house, buy these.Downside: Like every other headphone made for DJing - the swivel isnt exactly made iron-clad. If you've DJ'd for a while - you know this is just the way it is.
