Such a great handheld!
This is not my first retro handheld, and it is not the only one I use. I hesitated for a while on buying this one because of how many others I have, but the shape/form factor of this one, combined with the bigger 4-inch screen is what kept me looking at it again and again. I have no regrets about buying it!Many of the Anbernic and even other brands of handhelds commonly have that 3 - 3.5 inch screen, but it's amazing what a difference the slightly larger screen makes in being able to see detail and read text on the screen, especially for story-line games like Pokemon. If you grew up with what we today commonly refer to as "classic" video games, then you are probably at an age where the larger screen makes a huge difference. It's also a gorgeous display that's plenty bright and with minimal bezels. The rounded sides make this a much more comfortable handheld to play. I upgraded to this from the RG35xxh and while that one wasn't bad, it's compact size actually made it more uncomfortable after about 30 minutes, at least for me.This is a slim handheld, and because of the interior design with the processor and battery in almost direct contact, it does get a little warm, but not hot. If that bothers you at all, you will feel it on your right hand, but if that isn't a problem to you, don't let it deter you from getting this model. There are a lot of fantastic resources to make the experience even better. If you prefer horizontal handhelds, this is the best in the RG*xx line!

Battery stopped charging, completely worthless
I had it for less than 2 months before it stopped charging. It only works when it's plugged in. So much for a handheld portable device... I'll update if the seller gives me a refund, otherwise steer clear and go for a higher quality retro

The best
This has to be by far one of my favorite handhelds this year. As soon as I got it, it was hard for me to put it down. It plays all retro games all the way to n64 and psp. The battery lasts for at least 7 hrs of hardcore gaming. It's very comfortable to use. No wonder everyone keeps talking about this product, there's dozens of youtube reviews praising this product. If youre looking for a handheld that can handle almost every retro game, i highly recommend this product.

Does not turn on.
I ordered this for my son's birthday which is tomorrow and I was planning to put all his favorite games and surprise him in the morning. My son has autism and he was asking for this machine. I am extremely upset because the machine simply does not turn on.They are sending us a replacement but it won't arrive on time. I won't recommend this to anyone if the machine does not even turn on.

Plays as good as it looks
The media could not be loaded. As an avid collector of handheld retro gaming systems, I'm really impressed with the 40XX-H. The screen size is just about perfect; much more generous than the "mini-sized" pocket devices which are suddenly popular in retro gaming, but not so big you need an oversized specialized case to carry the thing around. The 40XX will easily fit into any purse or small backpack without hogging up much space. The performance is incredibly decent for a smaller device in this price range. It handles N64 emulation very well, which is a key test for how able the hardware is for emulating most game systems. DreamCast and PS1 emulation also seems to run smoothly. That tells me this machine will handle most any retro title with ease. The controllers work splendidly and the addition of RGB lighting makes the 40XX such an eye-catching rig.I'm not a huge fan of the operating system, but it isn't the worst I've seen either. There's an adequate search function which is helpful if you have a very large ROM library to deal with. Given how well games play on this machine, I'm not going to dock any stars for a mediocre OS that seems to do the job regardless. That means the 40XX gets a full five stars from me in this review. It's a truly great machine that will be a bright and colorful addition to your retro gaming lineup.
