I didn't realize these had an expiration date, being 120v. I thought I was safe and didn't worry about the battery backup since I have a whole house generator. When it didn't go off when it should have, I noticed the green light wasn't on. 10' ceilings means I can't test it without a stepladder. I replaced the old one (with a stepladder) and tested this one and it is LOUD. Great unit. Now I can hear it which means supper is ready when my wife cooks.

I have many of these installed in my house. They all work perfectly. They all work together, so if one device detects a problem, the alarm will sound in all of them. Warning, though: They require extra house electrical wiring. They get their power from house current, so you have to run wires to every place in the ceiling where you have one installed. The batteries normally are not used - they are in the device so they can provide backup power when the electrical power goes out. Also, you have to run an extra wire to all locations, so the devices can be interconnected. As long as you are willing to do the electrical wiring, this will provide a safer warning system than standalone devices. For example, if a standalone device in your basement sounds the alarm, you might not hear it elsewhere in the house. But if you have this interconnected system, the alarm will sound everywhere in the house.

Went with Kidde after getting numerous false alarms with another brand. Smooth sailing so far…easy install, and most importantly, NO false alarms. My suggestion: Go with a known brand like Kidde

We bought 10 these less than a year ago and already have had one with a faulty sensor so we ended up needing to replace it. Not sure if it’s just a one off or what but a little disappointed because this isn’t a cheap brand and I was hoping for better quality

Works great and easy to install

Looking at the price trend and the worse mechanical design, all I can say is this is beyond greedy.This model offers essentially the same functionality as previous generations, yet the price has climbed dramatically in less than a year. At the same time, the mechanical design has become less convenient. A simple backup battery replacement now requires unplugging the hardwired connector and removing the unit from the ceiling. Come on—the only notable design change in years is making routine maintenance substantially harder?Then there's the connector redesign. Instead of maintaining compatibility, Kidde changed the wiring connector, leaving many homeowners with the choice of working on household electrical wiring or paying for an electrician just to replace an alarm that should have been a simple swap. That adds unnecessary cost and inconvenience for no meaningful benefit.The alarm itself does what it's supposed to do, but charging substantially more for a product that's arguably less user-friendly is hard to justify. Kidde needs to take a hard look at both its pricing strategy and its product design. Until then, I'd wait for a sale or consider alternatives.From where I stand, the combination of soaring prices, reduced serviceability, and unnecessary compatibility changes reflects a company that's putting revenue ahead of its customers.

These come exactly as described, but they do not come with the little converter piece that is needed, but you can order separately.Easy to install, if you have all the pieces!I do know what they are very very loud when they go off!!!
