Silicon Bronze filler wire.....Tig usage
As a Tig welder, you would be well advised to carefully consider your base materials (your workpiece..) before committing to a specific filler material. Silicon Bronze is an interesting alternative to other fillers if (and ONLY if..) you have a need for it OR a specific job requirement. It is probably NOT best used for general purposes. Having said that, this product is very well suited to joining dissimilar metals with a copper content (copper, bronzes, brass..) to themselves or steel Or for joining coated steels and sheet metals (like galvanized...). I particularly like it for sheet materials where higher heat processes can cause undue warping and/or burn through. It should be noted here that welding with this material is NOT really welding. It is really a form of brazing. The underlying base material is typically NOT melted during the process. It is heated to the point that the filler will puddle or form a bead on the surface of the material and thus join it. Having said that, this can still be a VERY strong method of joining materials. This material is a good choice because of the thickness of the wire and your ability to twist multiple strands together to form a thicker filler rod if you need it for heavier materials or some gaps between materials. If you use it straight off of the spool it is perfect for small or thin projects that require less heat applied. If you are in the market for some Silicon Bronze filler and you need small diameters for small work....then this will suit your purposes well. I found it very uniform and easy to use. The only drawback being the relatively high cost of the filler. If you need it, and the cost can be absorbed or shared across projects, then this will work .... and work well.Five stars for a good product, well packaged and easy to use.

Excellent for reparing bronze statue.
We have a outdoor bronze swan statue that has sentimental value to us, and it was accidentally dropped this spring. One of the legs cracked where it had been joined at the foundry. I tried to gas braze it, but even after preheating with a rosebud, the mass of the sculpture soaked up the heat and I could not get a good bond with brazing rod and flux.I bought a roll of this Silicon Bronze and switched my MIG welder over to pure argon. Used the .035/ 1/8" steel setting initially, then played with the settings from there to dial it in. Was able to quickly bond the gap, then fill the chamfer I had put on both parts. Very controllable. Brushed with SS brush between passes to remove the soot. Had a small fan going to clear the fumes, which can make you sick. After grinding and retexturing the repair, I mixed up a solution of copper sulfate and water, heated the bronze with a propane torch, and brushed on the solution to re-patina the statue.

This stuff is fantastic
This works best for very thin sheet metal, dissimilar metals, and filling large gaps. However it should probably not be used for anything structural. It takes a little adjusting to get it to flow right and it takes an extra second to solidify after you let off the trigger. Although you should run pure argon or argon/helium, you can get away with regular 75/25 mig gas.

Great for light work & “pretty” beads
I like to use this on longer welds that don’t require steel level strength. Blue Demon makes the best of this material! They did not disappoint on this order. The welds look good & it binds almost anything (but make sure the weld zone is really really clean!). I’ve used this same brand material to TIG with (for shorter precise welds). Just remember not for use in welds that need strength & penetration.

If you give two flux
Mainly for making messy, irregular welds, but it also works great for using the gas you would mig welding, without losing that hot spatter that finds its way into your shoes or the smokey slag mess that you get from a gasless flux wire. Best of all, you don't have to worry about accidentally fusing the two pieces of metal together so much that you can't pull them apart. Heck, by the time you're done, you wont even know they're the same parts.
