Just Not Realistic Enough
It's an ok game but the realism just isn't there. There are a lot of things missing as well. For starters there is no practice tee/green. How are you supposed to practice without a practice tee? This was a huge oversight. In the club tuning area, you can hit shots to see how far they go but it's not really set up for practice. And there's no way to practice putting at all as far as I can tell. The golfer applies spin to the ball by pressing the d pad and shaking the controller! LOL. You put spin on the ball *after* you hit it! Just ridiculous. You can turn this feature off but you cannot win that way. The game requires you to use this absurdity to be successful. The advanced swing option is a step in the right direction because it gives you a little bit of control over your shot by how you swing the club. Open the club face to fade/slice and close the club face to draw or hook it. However, this doesn't go far enough. You cannot adjust ball position, stance or grip. You have no control over the flight of the ball other than to select a full shot versus a punch shot. There is nothing in between. This takes away a lot of shots that would make the game a lot more playable. My golfer has built his "spin" attribute up to 80% and yet pitching wedges roll off the back of the green. This even though I'm using a level 4 ball and my irons & wedges are tuned for maximum spin. Again, just not very realistic. It will not let you chip farther than a certain distance (I think it's about 40 feet). I know I've hit chips farther than that so I see no reason to artificially limit the length of chips. It also will occasionally not let you putt from off the green. To win a tournament, you have to average about 8 or 9 under par per round. When's the last time you saw a pro shoot -30 in a tournament? You can't read the slope of the green until you're on it (or close enough to chip). So from the fairway, you have no idea where to leave the ball to give yourself an uphill putt. Even the flyby is of limited use.The user interface is clunky. There are too many screens where you have to press <some button> to continue. It would also help if they were consistent about which button is required to continue. Sometimes it's +, sometimes it's A; you just never know. When you're playing against an AI opponent (a match play even for example) the game will move your opponents ball to give him an easier shot. I was playing at Turnberry in a match play event and the AI player hit his ball into a bunker, right up against the face. There's no way he should have had any shot other than a pitch out. But the game moved his ball back so that he could reach the green. And he did. I've seen the same thing happen when the AI golfer hits a ball up into a stand of gorse bushes. If you hit your ball into a hazard, you cannot choose where to drop the ball for your next shot. In a similar vein, you can't declare a ball unplayable. Occasionally, when you hit into a water hazard, you will be penalized for out of bounds instead. Big difference sometimes between a penalty stroke with a drop near the hazard versus stroke and distance. There are often spectators directly in your line of play. You can't hit them so it doesn't affect your shot but it's annoying to have people standing right in front of you when you're about to hit.You can't completely disable the celebrations after putting out. There is a speed mode that streamlines the game somewhat but it doesn't turn off celebrations. Instead it turns off useful stuff like the flyby before each hole. The MotionPlus attachment is a huge improvement. The game is unplayable without it.Overall, the game is decent but the lack of realism cripples it. When I play this game, I can't help but think of what could have been. It's a gigantic disappointment after reading all the hype surrounding it. I was hoping that with the addition of the MotionPlus, the ultimate golf game for the Wii had finally arrived. Unfortunately, that game is still in the future. Links386 was a better golf game 15 years ago.

Perfect for the Avid Golfer
Bought this for my 56-year-old golf-addict father for Christmas. He is absolutely obsessed with the game. My family has owned a Wii for several years, and dad was always a spectator. Now, we can't wrestle the remote control from him. The Motion Plus was easy to install, and I cannot believe how sensitive to wrist rotation and swing speed the controller is now. We played for hours and only got through a fraction of the available courses (My Dad loves the real-time weather conditions feature, too). Now, I'm back home and he keeps sending me text updates of his latest golf accomplishments.Only negative features: Disc golf is dumb, but who buys this game for the disc golf?-No real instructions. If I hadn't been present, don't know if dad could've figured the game out for himself. If you love golf, this game will blow you away.

Disappointment!
I'm not sure but the last time I saw a golfer on TV point the shaft of the club other than the putter, straight at the ground was what NEVER.The last time I saw the left side of a real golf course was NEVER, I'm a slicer/fader 99.9% I have to really work hard to hit a hook. In the club tuner I have it set for maximum fade but still draw/hook the ball left. to make it go straight or fade I would have to hold the controller 45 degrees to the right, which is pretty much impossible with the size of the controller. It seems the putting really only works well if you hing your wrists back and forth, I can see releasing the club but this is ridiculous, swinging your arms like a real putter the ball goes no where with out cocking and uncocking the wrist.I saw one other review that said that the spin didn't work, I would agree with that but it will spin out of the sand, in the rough or in the fairway but not on the green. If the motion control is such a great addition, then the programmers at EA Sports are either lazy or just low budget programmers! But is only a game, its not like a car that has a lemon law.I can't believe that Tiger or Hank would put there names on this.Stick with the PC or Play station game.

Nice game
I like this game! Putting took a little bit to figure out, but once I got it I was off. Not for real young kids, unless you just want to hit the range or something. I played this for three or four days and was competitive in the tournaments and even won one. It is important to me to have a game that you see improvement on soon and for me I could see improvement. I focused on getting better and I did. Some games no matter how hard you try, if you ain't got it...then you ain't gonna get it. This was a nice addition to my line up of games.

Am I missing something?
How am I able to shoot a PGA record breaking 27 on the front nine (hardest level) after playing this game for less then an hour? If you aim with the control pad you will hit your second shot within 2 feet of the hole everytime. Is there a more challenging way to play this game? On the other hand, the putting has no consistancy so you need to hit it within a "tap in" to avoid a 4 put on each hole. I wish I could like this game as I love watching golf. Unfortunatly (again with another Wi game - Nascar) I will be selling this on the secondary market.
