does this stop smoke alarms going off?

Depends on fire alarm sensitivity. It has not set off mine. As you toke, the smoke which comes off the end of your cigarette, will not be concealed. However using it conceals over 70% of overall smoke and works for me.

How does this work? Surely whatever you are smoking will smell when its burning?

You definitely have smoke coming off whatever you're burning but the majority of the smoke and smell and produces a big cloud is exhaled. It reduces the smell by a lot I've found when you're breathing your smoke into it
