This kit is cute! I love the surprise factor and that you have to chip away to see what character you end up with. It's a fun cheap toy to keep people entertained for a little bit. Would make a great stocking stuffer.

This item is cute in theory but is a total mess! I bought this for my 4 year old nephew and I hope and pray it comes off of my dad’s porch. It was a good value for a cool product.

This was a great gift for a Sonic loving kid, but the block took a while to get through, especially with the peewee plastic "hammer" they tell you to use. It's a nice touch that it's Amy's hammer from the Sonic series, but it does little to chip off the chalk block. There are instructions to submerge the block for 30 seconds to make it easier, and it does soften it a little, but it becomes a lot messier. This would be a great multi day activity if your kid is patient enough. I actually like that it's challenging because everything is so easy and automatic these days. If this didn't give us an activity to spend time doing, why not just buy the figure outright and skip the digging? I do suggest getting additional, metal tools though, to make progress more visible. A spoon or fork is good because it can scrape away the chalk block. I also suggest supervision as the digger gets close to their prize, as the figure is small and rather delicate. I see another reviewer mention the figure was deformed and broken, and that's almost certainly because the kid got eager and either broke the figure accidentally trying to remove it, or they hit it with a tool. It's small and can break.

This toy is so much fun and actually makes kiddos work for their prize! Ordered this for my son who is 4 and LOVES sonic. He had so much fun chiseling to get to the actual toy and was so happy when he saw it was Sonic. Gave a good bit of entertainment for a rainy afternoon! Easy clean up and comes in a small square box.

This took an adult sawing it open with a knife. We left it in water overnight and still could not chip away at the block with the “tool” provided. The toy inside is dinky. Not worth the money, or effort it took to get the toy out of the block.
