Will this soften 100% merino wool and make it less itchy?

It won’t make it any more itchy for sure. Getting the dirt out of the wool will soften it. However, if you are allergic to lanolin in wool, realize that this product has lanolin in it to revitalize the wool. It surely softened my rugs. I had to work diligently at separating the fibers as it dried and when dry.
