It definitely requires two people to assemble.  It also requires a ladder, but it is easily assembled by two people. Also we found out that the arching top should be put together on the ground first.  You will also need a rubber or wood mallet to pound the pieces all the way in.

what is the spacing measure in between the vertical rods of the gate? I'm wondering if it'll be enough to keep our little dog confined.

It's 4 1/2 inches wide and yes, our Bichon Frise is able to get through the gate and learned how to  bounce against the gate until latch was undone.   My husband built a cedar decorative box with a latch and metal handle for top and painted it black.  Genius....but then we bought two "black metal puppy guard" at Home Depot that matched our black metal fence and attached to bottom of gate doors with screws and black zip ties, but  dog jumped over & through.  Amazon also sells a "puppy bumper" in pet supplies so small dogs can't get through small spaces.  The bumper @ $19.95 requires additional dog collar threaded through loops then soft padded bumper snaps and works really well for prevention of escaping through small places.  GOOD Luck!  I would post a photo here but don't see a way. The Gate is nice and worth the trouble.

The gate's latch does securely close the gate. It easily swings open.  Any easy ideas to make sure my dog doesn't push it open?

The first thing I did was to drive a one foot piece of rebar against one side of the gate, just below the latch.  Not allowing the gate to swing "out" so my dog couldn't push it open. This still allowed the gate to open in, providing a full width opening.  Then I installed a stone path and placed a large stone at the opening, one side of the stone just slightly higher so that the gate sits on the stone, still allowing it to swing in, but not out.
