Once upon a time I believed that my nails were prone to splitting, breaking, and tearing. For years I would get artificial nails done because I thought I would never be able to grow beautiful nails like my mother. It was expensive and time consuming. I received a gift certificate for a manicurist who only did natural nail manicures and told her of my dilemma. I told her that I seemed to have nice and strong toenails but my fingernails always seemed weak and she immediately asked me to point out what type of nail file grit I had been using on my nails. I was using a medium type grit Sally Hansen or Revlon type emery board. She immediately said that was the problem and said I should only use crystal nail files with a finer grit.I purchased an Essie Crystal Nail File from her that day and my nails have never been weak or fragile again. The fine grit of a crystal nail file was the key I had been missing for so many years. I have been able to grow them really long without any issue at all. I weep over all the time and money wasted at nail salons when I could have used a crystal nail file and gotten a prettier and more natural result at home.I have owned several crystal nail files over the years and have them stored around my house, in my purse, and even in my car. I love that this one has a hard carrying case so I am planning on keeping this one in my car.Personally, the 180 grit is too harsh for my natural nails but I could see someone using that grit to debulk artificial nails or if you have exceptionally thick natural nails. These glass nail files last forever and you can wash them with dish soap and a soft bristle brush to clean them as needed.

For 10 years I used to get acrylic nails done until I decided last year, that I have outgrown that look and wanted to wear my natural nails. In order to do so, first I had to get my nails healthy again so after researching online I learned about the importance of Biotin, which I now take every day, and that glass nail files are much gentler and healthier for natural nails, than any other material. What also sets this one apart from the other ones is, that this one is bigger, wider and twice as thick as other models, which makes filing my nails easier it will be harder to break (I think) then the smaller and thinner models.I can honestly say that using Biotin and a glass nail file made my nails soooo healthy that I now have the same length nails that I had when I got acrylics, which is amazing because my nails used to be paper thin and would break as soon as they grew out a bit.Do your nails a favor and use this gentle nail file, you won’t regret!

I love a well-made glass nail file for achieving the smoothest nails without damaging them. The CANVALITE glass nail file is a nice size; it's a little bigger than the one I was using before (which I gave to my daughter), and that actually makes it easier to grip. The file is etched on both sides and is pretty thick so you don't feel like it will snap.The sheath and handle are OK; they're made of plastic and are very light, in a way that makes the file feel less balanced. A slightly heavier handle would improve the experience. The sheath snaps on fairly securely, latching onto two fine grooves on the handle. The sheath is usually the part that fails first, and with use, the plastic that fits into the grooves wears away and the sheath doesn't stay on; without the sheath, the file can get chipped or broken or dirty in your purse, so I will definitely be keeping this file in my desk drawer, not in my purse.

Ever since my beloved Diamond Deb nail files ceased production/availability I have searched for an alternative file that worked quickly and left a smooth finished edge on my fast growing but somewhat fragile nails. I had seen these glass files around, but could not imagine that they would be at all effective...well, I was very wrong in my assumptions. Many years ago I bought a mini travel sized glass nail file at a rotary fair. I have been searching for 15 years for a full sized nail file like that and have bought dozens of glass nail files and none of them compared, until today. What is the difference you might be wondering?Most nail files including glass ones are fairly rough and grind across the nail taking it off in rough chunks and they feel rough like an old fashioned emory board.Not this file! This nail file is extremely fine grit! It glides across your nail like literal butter. This is just like the mini glass file I have had for years. I am so happy to have found a quality glass nail file. This is the one to get! The only thing I do not love is that it comes in a case and the top of the case is adhered to the file. While this is nice to make the file easier to hold, I worry about water getting between the top and the glass file. So, I will try to not get water near the top when I clean the file.
