These are exactly what I expect out of black leather boots, disregard the naysayers.
I've been wearing plain black, leather, steel-toed boots for the past five years leading up to this one due to being in the Navy. Recently in my civilian job, there was a company policy requiring steel toes to enter our warehouse passed and I needed something other than my loafers. Enter these bad boys. They are made of durable and rigid leather, so ignore the reviewers griping about how it feels plastic or cheap. If you've ever suffered standard issue mil-spec footwear, you will immediately notice how much better these are. You will spend a week breaking them in before you stop feeling the 'new boots blues'. No matter what method you employ to break them in, you will have to wear them eventually; so it's best to put them on and get them as tight as you physically can in order to encourage the leather to stretch and bend in the right places with your feet and ankles. I find that even though they took longer to break in than most of my other shoes and boots, the material has stretched and settled better than any other pair I've owned. They do not stand out in a data center, office, or industrial environment, and they check all the boxes where I need them to. With a little polish on occasion to keep the leather stained and conditioned, and potentially replacing the sole a long ways off in the future; I would gamble that these boots will keep me happy for many years.NOTE: There is a tag sewn into the insole stating that these boots are not safety footwear. If your job requires you to have boots made to satisfy the requirements of ASTM F2413-11, these aren't for you boss.

Terrible Quality, a real disappointment!
Doc Marten used to be an amazing brand... until they unveiled Airwalk. For $130.00, I at least thought we'd be getting the made in UK boots!I used to hear amazing reviews about Doc Martens. I even borrowed an older pair that must havw been two decades old. They were the sturdiest pair of boots I'd ever seen. Real work boot quality. After that I decided to buy a pair for myself. I went to a store and tried them on to get an idea of the size. The only reason I didn't purchase them on the spot was because I had a gift card for a different store that only sold them online. Well, I choose the same size and color. When the new pair came, despite the size label being identical, this pair was at least two sizes bigger! I was so disappointed and had to send thrm back, and lost $30 of my gift card to the non-re-fundable shipping. I chalked this experience up to crappy China manufacturing.I decided to give Doc Marten a second chance, because I knew there was a quality difference between the $70 China version, and the $100+ UK version. My boyfriend needed a nice pair of well fitting boots that could double as normal outting shoes and work boots. We decided to splurge on these. After all, Doc Martens were originally construction boots, right?First, For the price, I was fairly certain these would be made in the UK. Wrong.Secondly, despite the description of being 'steel-toe boots', it is plastered all over the box and shoes themselves that these are fashion only boots, and not intended for work or protection. Why bother with adding steel toes to boots not intended for work? I'm not even sure these have steel toes.Third, one of the tongues is sewn in crooked. It doesn't stay in the center when laced up, and veers off to the side. It does this while unlaced as well. The tongue on the other boot is fine.Fourth, the laces are crap. The plastic protective piece came off, and the outer lace stripped down when trying to lace up. Just immediately frayed. I've had the plastic piece come off on other laces, and they were still usable.Fifth, he has complaints about the construction... some of the seams are bulky and make it difficult to put the boots on.Lastly, the body material is crap. It's a horrible, stiff, cheap quality plastic. I get these are probably meant to be water proof... I have a pair of Walmart boots I bought at good will for $15 that are also waterproof... the difference is the material they use is actually flexible enough to conform to your leg! I've had them for five years, worn them on four mile weekly treks in heavy snow without issues. Who are these Doc Martens designed for? If you want a pair of boots that will sit there and look pretty, you've made a good choice. It isn't even worth the return shipping for a refund.

the classic experience
what else is there to say? they're doc martens. i've had other pairs and to be honest, i don't even remember what model number i had or whether or not they were steel-toe... i wore them until they fell apart. i don't really have any complaints or i wouldn't have bought a new pair.i don't know if these were manufactured in the UK or china or in timbuktu. all shoes have a break-in period. all products have the potential to have a manufacturing problem. many major companies out-source their manufacturing to other places. i don't know that this means quality is compromised. these are still doc martens and they still need to pass QA.so... to sum up. if you wear a pair of shoes every day and you do everything in them, chances are they aren't going to last you as long as a pair of shoes you wear every other day or shoes that you wear for certain engagements. running shoes are supposed to be replaced more often than normal everyday tennis shoes. why? because that break-in period breaks the functionality of the shoe. they might be super comfortable to wear after a year but you shouldn't wear them running. whether these shoes are labeled as "rugged steel toed" construction boots or not, if you work in that industry, then you know that those kinds of shoes are certified to pass certain guidelines. and i doubt that you would find any construction worker looking to wear dr. martens steel toe boots as part of their work attire.these are great boots. they look great. they are solid and sturdy and they most certainly are the classic.

... in the UK anymore they are still of a good quality, maybe not as good as the originals ...
Even though these boots are not made in the UK anymore they are still of a good quality, maybe not as good as the originals from years ago but they do the job.

good
Been wearing this model of Doc Marten for over 10 years.really disappointed with the quality of these boots, they are way cheaper than earlier versions, less details too (there use to be a seam "circling" the steel toe part, it's now gone which is a bummer, i liked that part of the design.Still the hardest boots to break but that's to be expected.
