Fluke BK120 SmartTrace Breaker Finder and Socket Tester

I purchased the Fluke BK120 SmartTrace Breaker Finder and Socket to help identify circuits in my home, and it worked exactly as advertised. Setup was straightforward—plug the transmitter into the outlet, scan the panel with the receiver, and the correct breaker was clearly identified without guesswork. What really stood out to me was the accuracy. I’ve tried breaker finding methods in the past that required flipping multiple breakers on and off, but this tool eliminated that frustration entirely. The signal was consistent and easy to read, even on a crowded breaker panel. The build quality feels solid and durable, which is what I expect from Fluke products. This tool saved me time and made what is usually a tedious task much more efficient. Whether you’re a homeowner doing basic electrical work or someone who needs to trace circuits more regularly, this is a reliable and well-designed tool. I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it.

Worked great (it's a Fluke!) - super useful and a bit of a lifesaver when figuring out the state of the electric sockets and lights for an old house - where the very confused power circuits resulted from many different electricians working on the house over the years. The socket tester is super easy (every household should have one) and live circuit tester saved me a few times. The breaker finder takes a little getting used to - to get results you expect - but once you figure it out, it is very predictable.

I choose Fluke for test equipment. Pricey but a cut above the rest. I also use Hioki and Kyoritsu. Other brands I let my friends borrow indefinitely. The BK120 SmartTrace Breaker Finder comes with a Quick Reference Guide, a double-sided sheet of water-resistant paper with pictorial instructions for an international audience. Visit Fluke's website to download their Users Guide that explains in English language how to use the BK120, including tips for resolving ambiguous readings that are not mentioned in the pictorial Quick Reference Guide. Fluke also has a webpage ("How do I find where my breaker goes?") that explains less content in English language. I recommend the Users Guide. Here's an excerpt from their Users Guide (9/2023, Rev. 2, 10/24 (English)), only text, no drawings: --begin excerpt-- Breaker and Fuse identification To identify a breaker: 1. Plug the Transmitter into the socket (See Figure 3.). 2. Turn ON the Breaker Finder and slide the function selector to BREAKER FINDER position (See Figure 4.). 3. Hold the Breaker Finder perpendicular to the breakers and scan slowly at the breaker panel with the flat surface of the tip end directly on the circuit breaker. During this scan, it may beep and/or have visual indication at several breakers as it measures the relative signal strength during the first scan process (See Figure 5.). Note: Inaccurate reading may occur if the tip is placed at any other angle. 4. Repeat step 3 for the second scan, solid green indication illuminates when the Breaker Finder identifies the breaker that is powering the Transmitter (See Figure 6.). For optimal results or if the Breaker Finder detects two adjacent breakers on the second scan, reset the Breaker Finder, and turn the Breaker Finder 180⁰ (see Figure7). Repeat step 3 and 4. 5. To confirm you have found the correct breaker, trip off the breaker and check that the Transmitter in the socket is off (See Figure 8.). --end excerpt-- By "turn the Breaker Finder 180⁰" Fluke means holding the tester in your other hand (that is, your left hand instead of your right). Shopping tip: If you are considering buying a Fluke 1AC II VoltAlert Non-Contact Voltage Tester and a Fluke ST120 GFCI Socket Tester, then instead buy a Fluke BK120 SmartTrace Breaker Finder and Socket Tester (the product of this review) because you get the functionality of both devices plus a circuit breaker finder. Costs more, gets more. I do not know whether the ST120 and BK120 transmitter are identical other than the ST120 being rated up to 300V while the BK120 transmitter is limited to 150V. The 2 devices look almost the same (see my photo of them side by side). I simultaneously plugged in both kinds to different electrical outlets, and the BK120 tester identified each circuit on the breaker panel. This is not how you are supposed to use the device -- I did this because I was curious. Good luck to all of you.

I love this product fluke does a great job with everything they make and I feel like people don’t talk about this one enough it’s so nice to be able to switch from non contact voltage tester to circuit tracer. I’d say it’s definitely worth the money.

So far working like a champ. Very easy to use. Great for circuit finding.

Works better than any other brand I’ve owned. That said. I gave it 4 stars because my Klein and Milwaukee though they don’t work as accurately as this one, they feel like they can take a drop. The fluke I was surprised to see feels pretty cheap and light in the hands. I’ve never tested it or dropped it. But I definitely keep it in a case. Maybe you can make the next model a bit more robust fluke? I actually love the size. It’s much smaller than other brands and has NCVT and a light. So a lot in a small package. But man it just feels like nothing! My biggest gripe is the plug tester transmitter. You need a whole damn duplex to test because unlike other brands that stick out straight so you can test in a confined spot and leave something plugged into the buttom or top receptacle. This one goes down so it takes up so much room. I shouldn’t have to carry a custom 1’ extension cord with me to make sure my tools works in most scenarios especially for a fluke.

Good product all I use is Luke

A great tool for testing GFI plugs and for finding a breaker for power outlets. I wish somehow it also worked for light switches/circuits. The only drawback I found is that it is recommended that all outlets are vacant when testing. The voltage detection works very well.

I am an electrical engineer and have been using Fluke test gear for decades. This device is another example of the old saying, "if it works, it is a Fluke" I had another brand of this kind of device, but it failed to located the correct breaker a number of times, forcing me to go back to the old method of just turn off a lot of breakers and see if the power was off at the spot I needed to work on. This one on the other hand has worked exactly as expected, and It does give me another voltage detector to scan wires to insure power if off, or at least which ones are the hot wires. This one is a keeper!

Muito bom o produto. É Fluke. Funciona perfeitamente. Como o produto é importado, o padrão de tomada veio diferente do Brasil mas nada que um adaptador não resolva.
