Way too much pomposity and history
I am a gifted and award winning public speaker and this book bored me to death. it is if he is being the school marm that has way too much ego involved. The endless history inclusions do more to bore than to educate. There is some good training in here but it is buried under tons of historical quotes. Not all my cup of tea and not recommended for someone who is truly trying to learn to be a public speaker. The reviewer is the author of the Kindle book entitled: Sex Education for AdultsSecrets To Amazing Sex and Happily Ever After Too

School required hard copy!?
Ridiculous in this digital age that a technology college would require students to purchase a hard copy of this without providing it in the school store. They had short notice, and most online options had delayed shipping dates. This seller got it there fastest, but still after the professor's due date. We got the Kindle version also just so my student could read the assignment and be prepped for class. If all the other students hadn't encountered the same problem he'd have lost points for the lack of hard copy! That said, this book is a classic tool for public speaking and oral presentation courses, despite being snooze-worthy and dated. I'm hoping the course also includes more modern talking points and audience engagement tools.

Classic and Dated
This is a classic book, filled with oratory from 100 years ago. The advice is timeless but the book isn’t. There are lots of choices out there, and this isn’t your best choice. Want to read some lost great speeches? You got them here. Want to speak better? Look elsewhere.

A foundational book on public speaking
This dense classic (AoPS) unpacks public speaking topic by topic, providing previous speeches throughout to practice with.It approaches public speaking from the absolute best perspective: it's not about you, it's about THE MESSAGE!AoPS also has amazing introductory piece on being courageous. One major caveat to keep in mind: The style of public speaking has changed in the past +100 years. Gone are the days of three-hour booming oratories by Webster and Beecher. In their stead modern speaking have to be quick-hitting with profound and engaging stories.

Nothing to complaint about, it's free
Nothing to complaint about, these are free. Reviews on this type of item are some what pointless. What is good for one person is not necessarily good for another person.

Still in vogue
Althought this book was first published way back - it is still very much relevant to the current and future intricates of Public Speaking. The authors have been able to carefully discuss the various aspects of the act of speaking publicly in a way that is relevant to both those who are experienced speakers and those who are aiming to become top notch speakers.
